It is definitely an important scene in the film, but it's more important for Scotty in terms of story and character development (as many sacrificed minor characters are in films).
I don't know, it feels like making the toy of him and not of Scotty is showing a misunderstanding of his place in the film.
They talk about this in the video. Nacelle is almost making these figures as a response to Playmates’ line which is nothing but the most well known characters. I think in the future they’ll get around to Scotty (but do it in a special way, like Scotty from Relics complete with makeshift arm sling).
I guess there are a lot of lesser-known characters that I would have gone for first:
To name some from across the classic shows: Finnegan, Vash, the female changeling, Icheb, Major Hayes.
Aside from Finnegan (that's just personal preference, you could do a multi-episode minor character like Sarek), all of those characters had more effect on Star Trek storylines than Peter Preston.
I mean look at the other characters they're going with. I wouldn't exactly put him on the level of Rachel Garrett or Tuvix or Jellico.
My favorite part of the video is that they say that the Comic Con audience gasped when Tuvix was shown.
It's almost like they are watching us and made that figurine as a gotcha for something that hasn't been memed on.
Well now I'm going to take that as a challenge.
80s deep cut!
This isn't just a deep cut, this is the Challenger Deep of Trek memes!
