General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Damn, I would've expected this kind of rhetoric from "ReformUK" or one of the other alt-right parties, but to hear this from someone meant to be representing labour is horrid. Such little empathy towards these people fleeing the horrors of their home countries - deport people like her to Rwanda then see how they feel about what they're advocating for.

Edit: Also, glad to see a new alternative frontend for Xwitter since Nitter got nuked out of existence.

She's representing her constituents. You know, like an MP is supposed to.

The hotel was set on fire last night, can you not see how pandering to far-right constituents can be dangerous?

Highlighting that our asylum system is broken and really needs sorting out so we don't need to use hotels to house asylum seekers is not pandering to the far-right.

It's actually Labour policy.

You can do that without saying that the local hotel has been taken away from locals by asylum seekers, and that it needs to be 'given back'. The rhetoric is clearly inflammatory.

You are clearly rephrasing this to manufacture dissent.

Saying that a local hotel has been taken away from locals for asylum seekers and needs to be returned is just trying to get the government to talk about what the long term solution is. We are longer ruled by Tories, so the standard can improve.

I'm not clear what you are angry about.

Tamworth benefits from tourism which is restricted due to hotels being unavailable for tourist purposes.

She is clearly stating that temporary accommodation has now expired and a better plan needs to be decided. The amount of articles stating that the hotel placements are a horrible idea that forces people to live in a single room without food preparation areas, without clothing washing and drying facilities, and without private areas are awful has been numerous. The link wasn't her telling asylum seekers to go home, it was standing in parliament calling on the government to stop putting people in unsuitable locations.

This is precisely the conversation we need to have because ignoring it leads to stronger reactions, and ultimately right wing rhetoric of "stop the boats", "deport to Rwanda", and burning the hotels, etc.

Advocating for the people to live in a Holiday Inn for years at a time shows such little empathy towards these people fleeing the horrors of their home countries.

Thank you for finally showing me how to see stupid fuckin Twitter without an account. I hate when important stuff is on there.

She should lose the whip for that.
