THE POLICE PROBLEM
The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.
99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.
When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.
When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."
When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.
Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.
The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.
All this is a path to a police state.
In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.
Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.
That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

I like having the most open and shut case of all time, and an opportunity to get shit loads of money.
Yeah you're gonna go to prison. Or maybe have a "heart attack" on the ride to jail.
You have any idea how often cops get away with this stuff?
Almost always. Even with video evidence against them.
I'm not particularly worried about going to prison for a DUI. Nor am I worried they're gonna kill me. If there are public articles about how evidence was planted, even the shittiest lawyer on earth would have a field day with that case.
You must be very white and wealthy.
I am white but not very wealthy. But in this case that doesn't make much of a difference. If its so obvious they planted evidence that the entire world already knows about it, you will come out on top regardless of race.
I almost envy your naivete
I definitely don't envy your unfounded cynisism. The justice system is biased against black people, but when the planting of evidence is already proven to that extent, there isn't anything they can do.
Its not like you just automatically go to prison if you're black. You still get a trial, and if you have a case that good you'll be fine.
You willing to wait 3 years in jail for that? If you survive?
You know what, this conversation isn't worth it. Next you'll go, "ah but you have a right to a speedy trial" and I'll tell you the real world examples of that not happening and you'll keep saying "they're not allowed to do that" and I'll keep saying "they do it anyway, and get away with it" ad infinium, for every level. You're just fucking naive and privileged. You've clearly never seen someone get railroaded by the system and that fucking sucks, because the logical conclusion of your line of thought is "since it's so magically easy to not have the cops railroad you, it must not be happening" which leads to "therefore everyone fucked over by cops must have deserved it".
It's frustrating. You refuse to see the way the world works and it makes you a worse person.
It is happening, it just isn't going to happen any more in this case. Notice every time I said this person would be fine I said "in this situation. There is a reason for that. Also note when I literally said the justice system is biased against black people.
Well I don't believe that, never said I did, and I never will believe it. That's obviously completely untrue, so I don't know why you're saying this.
Have you ever heard of bail? Not a perfect solution to that problem, but its disingenuous to say you are definitely going to have to wait in jail for 3 entire years to get to your trial.
Ah, the classic "I don't have to come up with an argument because you aren't worth my time." You don't have to be correct if you can just call me naive.
