Hello. Is anyone seeing this problem?

For the past year I cannot reliably get IVPN's network protection (automatically connecting/disconnecting) to work as long as I am using custom DNS. I typically use NextDNS and tried DoH and DoT plus generic Cloudflare DoH. Most of the time when a connection is triggered IVPN just flip-flops connecting - disconnected. As soon as I disable custom DNS, network protection works perfectly. All versions of iOS 16 and 17 -- no difference.

IVPN says no one else is having this problem so it's low priority.

Hear me out. The core function of providing VPN connection works quite well. Connecting to servers works and is fast. Multiple hops may not be as fast as in other VPN's but still are acceptable. Still, the Windows application is just terrible. It is not user-friendly, confusing and just do not work well at all. Let me point things out:

  1. Double left-clicking on the tray icon does nothing - (on different VPN apps, it shows the main app window). So to show that window, user needs to right-click and choose show window. Some extra steps that for me are annoying.
  2. You cannot resize the window and sometimes it gets small by itself. It can be fixed by randomly clicking on interface stuff until it just resize to original by itself
  3. No kill switch in the app. On the website, it says that IVPN has kill switch, but in the app there is none. It's not possible to even know if it is enabled and works or not. I just assume that the firewall is a so-called kill switch here. If it is, then for all that is sane point that out somehow in the GUI.
  4. Mentioned firewall works terrible. If firewall is set on-demand it somehow works but is yet another bloatware added to the system when we already have built in firewall in it. If it is set as always-on, it screws connections up. I do use Xbox Game Pass and need to disable VPN to stream games because split tunnel do not recognize it (most of VPN just don't work with Xbox app). So when that awful firewall is set to always on and a user choose to pause connection or disable VPN, the internet on a machine (at least mine) lags and is really slow as clearly the firewall is messing something up. The issue does not appear when firewall is set to on-demand, then firewall just turns off completely fine.

I must say that after testing NordVPN and Mullvad apps for windows, IVPN's is the worst experience so far. As said before the core function of VPN is good, it does what it should but the application and that fancy firewall are bothersome and annoying to use.

For some reason It won’t show the list of wifi or register new ones. I’m on macOS Sonoma. Also before I installed Sonoma it was working fine and I had one wifi on there. After the update for some reason it would do the wifi rule. Tired reinstalling and uninstalling. It didn’t work.

Hi, if I connect to a VPN first then connect to Tor browser on Windows with JavaScript enabled to visit a clearnet website. (Home wifi -> VPN -> Tor browser -> example.com) Is that website able to see or find my real IP address through JavaScript? If so, how would they? Thanks

Please note for this role we are only recruiting within the UTC-5 to UTC+7 timezones.

We are looking for a Technical Writer to create in-depth guides about privacy, information security and VPN use. We prefer quality over quantity, and aim for providing real value to our technical audience as opposed to churning out surface level, keyword stuffed content marketing posts.

To qualify for this role, credentials and number of years of experience does not necessarily matter, given you have a deep interest in privacy, come equipped with technical skills, and have a knack for writing. We offer flexibility, autonomy and just as much guidance as you need to succeed in this position. This is a remote, part-time (20 hours per week) position with a possibility of switch to full-time depending on the progress of projects and your goals.

What you will work in the first 6 months:

  • Research and write articles and guides for technically proficient audiences on privacy and security topics, including, but not limited to:
    • Threat modelling and advanced privacy threats
    • ISP surveillance capabilities
    • Practical anonymity and low latency networks
    • VPN related technical concepts and issues
    • Self-sovereignty and self-hosting
  • Updating and improving IVPN's Privacy Guides, with specific focus on Advanced Guides

Requirements

You tick the following boxes and have:

  • Native level English.

  • Published information security or privacy related materials with a technical focus. Blog posts, guest posts, assignments, research papers qualify.

  • Strong interest in information security and privacy, with focus on end-user best practices, threat modeling and privacy tools

Nice to have:

- Strong technical background, ongoing studies or degree in related field (e.g. information security)

  • Experience with advanced privacy and anonymity practices, eg. VPN chaining, virtual machines, QubesOS, Tor

  • Interest or experience in cryptography

I live in East Asia, and I get better performance by multihopping on a distant European server than by multihopping on a nearby Asian server.

Servers in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan are terrible. Uploads are less than 1 Mbps.

Based on our latest tests we can confirm all features of IVPN for macOS are working as intended on Sonoma (scheduled for release on 26 September).

Earlier reports demonstrated issues with VPN firewalls due to packet filtering changes. We could confirm these occurring, however Apple has fixed the underlying cause.

Hi all, I've been using VPNs since 2013, and of all the VPNs I've used, IVPN has been the best overall.

IVPN Pros:

  • Crypto payments
  • Account number rather than username, password.
  • Live chat and email support
  • Good prices at ~$6 per month.
  • Audited no logs infrastucture and app security patching.
  • Good amount of servers.
  • DNS tracker blocklists.
  • Optional Obfuscation when connecting via OpenVPN.
  • Protocol and Port configurability. OpenVPN, WireGuard, many ports available for both protocols.
  • Linux, Mac, Windows, Android (and maybe more) GUI apps.
  • Good setup guides.

Cons: None

Overall, IVPN is my most highly rated VPN and I recommend using it for any type of VPN user. I've played FPS games like Battlefield 4 with it, and MMOs like World of Warcraft.

Thanks IVPN team. :-)

This is a timely reminder to all IVPN customers who have a Pro plan with Port Forwarding activated, on 30 September:

  • all previously open ports will be closed

  • port forwarding as a tab/feature will be removed from My Account and other areas of the IVPN website

I've been using IVPN for years and I was excited to hear about the proxy service being offered because Firefox has multi-account containers that you can configure with a proxy. I hoped I'd be able to use my existing IVPN subscription to location-scope some of those containers.

Unfortunately, this would require me leaving the VPN on at all times. I do not want to do this, the vast majority of my traffic does not need to go over a VPN. If there were a way to enable auth for the proxy itself I could only use the service for those containers and no where else.

Is this currently possible with IVPN? I don't believe it is, and if that's the case, does anyone know a provider with whom this would be possible?

The new block lan traffic setting in the iOS app. Will that block the connections that weren’t previously routed through a vpn? Like the native apple services that refused to route though the vpn connection?

Hi community,

I've just became a subscriber of iVPN and I see that the F-Droid version (with AntiTracker) has had it's latest release on 9th July whilst the Play Store version had it's latest update on 15th of August.

How much time will the F-Droid version be behind? Maybe it's smarter to use the Play Store version since I will be late with bugfixes that also (potentially) fixes security issues? Curious about your thoughts.

And just a headsup to the iVPN team: the Accresent link to the app doesn't work.
