Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Boardgames Magazine on the Fediverse!

I'm a Reddit refugee and wanted to start fresh after many issues with the OG /r/boardgames, namely the low effort posts, news and OC being buried by recommendation threads, and overall issues with the same questions being asked over and over.

I'd love for this to become a more community oriented subreddit instead of a karma mining machine with pictures of boxes. I'd love to hear people's ideas on how we can make this meaningful for those out there who just want to discuss and talk about their love for board games.

Most board games are made in China, with a little manufacturing taking place in Germany. It's not because U.S.-based designers don't want to manufacture at home — the infrastructure and expertise to make parts like counters and dice simply doesn't exist. @[email protected] looked at how Trump's tariffs might affect board games — a story that will be likely be played out across many industries over the coming months and years.

I know how all the pieces move, but that doesnt mean I really know how to play. Maybe a smarter board can help train me?

AZKi has shown me a side of Othello/Reversi that I didn't know existed.

The absolute bait-and-switch play looks like sadistic fun. To give your opponent hope, while eliminating all potential moves they can make, until they dance at your mercy.

A board game called 2045 lets players imagine the scenario of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan in the year 2045. Players can take the role of Taiwanese army officers, Chinese sleeper agents and volunteer citizen fighters

For many people, learning the rules of any unfamiliar board game can feel as alien as learning a brand new language. Yet few games make that experience quite as literal as City of Six Moons. Its rulebook arrives written in a mysterious series of symbols that players must translate before they can play the game itself – and may never know if they’ve got everything right.
