The great part about the GNU Public License (and similar) is that they've had a philosophical/ideological bent toward resisting that corruption. You can use the software, but you have to share the code with the people (individuals) who are actually using it. If you change it, those changes have to go to people who are using the changed software. You're not allowed to grab other people's work and proprietary-ize it.

It's not perfect and corporations are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to corrupt it, but it works pretty well tbh. There aren't a lot of things that can stop the relentless crush of capitalism at all, but open source software has been pretty successful in my opinion.

That's not just a McLaren, that's probably the most famous McLaren of all time.

No, literally. Slavery is still legal as punishment for a crime. Which is why everything is illegal these days.

Man, imagine how much better the world would be if accountants would face consequences when their decision was to blame?

Dude was black and he just knew that mob would who aggro onto him instead of the representatives because of that. (I mean, they did, didn't they?)

Maybe it's different for Capitol Police, but for most cops being a decoy isn't a part of their job description. In that moment, he wasn't acting as a cop. He was acting as a hero.

If i were to chase someone down on the roads, whether they're driving recklessly or not, and that person crashed as a result of my pursuit i would be held liable.

COVID is 10x as deadly as the flu and far more contagious. In 2021, when half a million people in the US died to COVID, they didn't even bother to count flu deaths because they were so low. We accidentally wiped out whole strains of the flu.

This attitude of "we can't hurt business no matter how many people die" is insane.

I look forward to the courts being very normal about that argument.

The law in NC (not sure about the Utah one) doesn't care about where the login is coming from. It only cares about where the user is located. The user concealing that information, on purpose or by accident, does not mean the website can ignore its requirements under the law.

If the backlash is the scary imagine how frightening the presidency would be. Fucking cowards.

America does. America has, for years, had a vested interest in Israel being a forward base for its interests. You think America is getting nothing out of all those guns it sends to Israel?

Putting it another way, the police caused this directly. It would not have happened without their actions.
