Idk something about strengthening American economy making it more self reliant. Which is why he’s putting tariffs on all of the things we can’t sustainably produce here and are outsourced for a reason, y’know, so we can, uh…

Not to mention, blue means democrat. If the lines are blue they can blame it on the democrats when things go wrong!

I don't really see people defending TSA anywhere. I just see people pointing out that Trump thinks DEI initiatives are at fault, while simultaneously thinking that thinning out the workforce in a notoriously understaffed field will strengthen the workforce.

I mean, if you could find a way to make it impactful, sure. However, people with large amounts of power are not often going to live in fear because there are angry people outside. If shit were to really change quick because people protest outside of politicians houses, they would have changed quickly by now because people have done this for a long time.

As I said previously, I don't disregard these protests, in fact I still support them. But the reality is, politicians and CEOs often have security details, and protesters frequently disrupting the city's infrastructure (traffic issues, disruption of business, chaos in general) are equally as likely to attract the attention of politicians and policy makers.

As a side note, someone seeing people fight for a cause and their only thought being "great now I'm going to have to take a detour!!!" indicates that they probably weren't the type of person the protest is targeted towards, or who will care about a bigger cause than their commute to work.

I will spice up your life I'm an independent voter and didn't vote for Orange Nero :D

One of these will make the news and one wouldn't. If the goal of a protest is to spread awareness and draw attention, going to where politicians live will probably get you a restraining order and a cozy ride in the back of a police vehicle and the protest will likely go unnoticed.

Not saying these types of protests are not necessary or unhelpful! I'm just saying that, in order to draw the most attention to your cause, you inconvenience daily lives. Those are the things that make headlines and viral posts, not a secluded protest on private property.

This is what I was trying to say but didn't have the foresight to elaborate and that seems to have earned me some downvotes lol

It is not natural to be racist.

Not at all what I’m saying, of course actions have consequences.

What the commenter was saying is that all Americans deserve what’s happening, even those who voted for Harris. I think it’s pretty disingenuous to say that the people who are impacted by what’s going on right now deserve what’s happening.

You may have spread as much information as you could and pushed for change and tried to warn as many people as you could, but it doesn’t matter and we all deserve this because a portion of people stayed home and Trump ended up winning the election.

Incredibly defeatist claim.

I think most people agree with you, and I don’t really think anyone would say that hiring illegal workers to lower prices and pay them lower wages is a solution.

People are upset not because they can’t exploit illegal immigrants anymore, but because the solution should’ve been to provide the working immigrants with worker protections and easier paths to citizenship (which you suggested something similar). Instead they’re attempting to suddenly and forcefully deport all of them.

If this isn't the right community to post this please let me know (I couldn't find a political theory community).

I'd like to think that I can keep up decent enough in modern political discussions based on my current understanding of the major ideologies, but I'd like to know more. What are some books/works you guys would recommend I read to be able to hold my own in a political conversation?

More specifically I'd like to focus on:

  • Major works of political theory that are often referenced in discussion
  • Works which identify and describe these ideologies in a modern climate (i.e. real world examples and commentary)
  • Works discussing recent events (the last 15-20 years or so) and how they have impacted things either locally or globally

I find myself mainly interested in leftist works and ideologies, however all recommendations are welcome, especially those which are frequently referenced (regardless of general agreement/disagreement you might have with it).
