My view (sorry for the British context and no cool name for it):

Have a King as head of state mainly in a similar role to now in the UK to be someone who can fire any ministers if needed.

No political parties. Simply have the public vote for a choice of 5 candidates for each cabinet minister post on 5 year terms.

These candidates must have at least 20 years experience of the field they wish to be minister of. For example, the choices for Health Minister would be between 5 people, who all have extensive experience in the field. So would hopefully understand what can and needs to be done. Rather than our current system of having a PPE graduate who has only ever worked in politics in charge of things they do not understand.

I also feel that removing political parties from the process would reduce some of the group-think that currently happens, as the public would be voting on the best policies for health, then for education etc. I think that would be an improvement over currently only having one vote and having to choose a party that ticks some but not all of your policy preferences.

I've been running a 12 bay nas for 8 years the only drives I have had fail have been Seagate drives.

I now use WD reds and lately due to their very good price point on eBay Toshiba drives.

Although the Toshiba drives do seem to be slightly noisier so depends where your server is located.

What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

I switched from Calibre to Ubooquity.

It seems to handle all files types, with an easy setup and nice interface.

There is a default comics section that you can use for your cbr and pdf files.

i run this backup daily because the from date for it is based on the date of the last 6 monthly backup to tape

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (3 children)

UPDATE: The specific date thing is because every 6 months i backup my nas to LTO tape so this backup is anything that isn't currently on tape just in case the NAS dies between backups.

Hi,

I currently use a program called copywhiz on windows that backs up any files or directories created after a certain date to a usb hard drive and runs once a day.

I want to transition fully to Linux. Is there any easy to use software that works on Linux that can do this?

P.S. I have tried creating a bash script to do this but for some reason it has trouble with the date part. So a software solution would be prefered.

I am currently working on a game I was told by one friend to use the language I am most comfortable in. However others have criticised me for not using their preferred language or environment.

Should I switch or keep going?
