Not shocking — the current Republican majority on the Supreme Court doesn't care about actual intent — only about the gratuities they can get for favoring the financial interests of the wealthy willing to pay.

They've been routinely inviting Presidential candidates for quite a while. Here for example is the NABJ interview of Biden in 2020, and their interview of Clinton in 2016

The only real question is why Trump accepted.
