Exactly. So much of this AI safety talk is science fiction tier gloom and doom that is used by advocates, critics, businesses, etc as a means to push an agenda. I'm just here fine tuning HuggingFace models, happy that the model didn't puke out word soup.
Stradivarius violins were made over a course of 200 years by the Stradivari family. Antonio Stradivari in particular produced violins for over 75 years! I don't think a 15 year patent would have been enough to give away their trade secrets. These were hand crafted art pieces, not mass produced items. The reality is that patent law extends all the way back to the Roman period and was mostly a legal system for emperors and kings to distribute monopolies to his favored subjects.
Exactly. IP isn't rivalrous like land or goods, so it has no place being artificially restricted. Property rights are a solution to human conflict in the natural world.

They also separate men from women and anytime something unconventional happens (e.g. women wearing Tefillin), the Chassidim freak out. All the rules in place there are to prevent the Old City from descending into chaos.
