If only some side lengths are irrational, then, by definition, there is no ratio of whole numbers that describes those lengths relative to each other - therefore, you can't divide them out to be whole. Unless all side lengths are irrational and also share the same irrational multiplier (like root(2) in your example).

I've been on the other side of that fence a few times and have friends who still are. I always try to be accommodating with customer support who aren't in control of their product anyway and all they can do is tell me how it is.

Okay, that is actually a valid point. I guess my issue with Soviet elections wasn't the one party system, but how that party was propped up to be the default and most people never bothered to vote against it.
