By default, federation is disabled and the admin must enable it. Private instance and federation are mutually exclusive.

We’re all figuring this out as we go! Since the great Reddit migration, we’ve already seen our first big drama with the Beehaw defederation. Some Beehaw users disagreed and left for other instances while users of other instances liked the move and joined Beehaw. The Lemmy fediverse is what WE make it for better or for worse.
There are two config options that control this:
- private_instance
- federation_enabled
Federation is disabled by default, and needs to be enabled either through the online admin panel or directly through the config.json file.

I have the Schlage Z-Wave Plus locks and they have been great. The main issue with battery life is fitment between the bolt and the strike hole. There should be no friction between them when engaging or retracting the bolt. I’m still on my original batteries after nearly 2 years.
I don’t think you’re looking for architects or developers if you just want to run an instance. Those would be for developing custom features for Lemmy. I believe you are looking for a Cloud Engineer.

Lemmy 0.18 had been out for less than an hour after you posted this.
lemmy.ml just upgraded to Lemmy 0.18-rc. Other instances have reported much better federation so hopefully things improve soon with the new release.
