I thought we were talking about the people making a living on OF, not the company itself. Isn't that the reason that its 30% deduction of profit from the creators on the platform is relevant to the conversation?

Like, the OF creator is spending 70% of their profit on wages compared to a porn production or even a normal company, which would spend much less on employee salaries. So they can sustain a living on less money overall because the profit margin is higher.

Link to the pre-print version for those who want to read the full work without paying for Nature (hit the "Download" button for the PDF).

I guess that depends on the overhead. How much does it cost to maintain an Only Fans business?

Since equipment (camera, lighting, outfits, toys, etc.) is a fixed 1-time cost outside of consumables such as makeup, condoms, etc., I'd imagine that the profit margin is relatively high compared to most other types of business.

But that's just me making inferences, I have no authority or experience in these fields.

Sure, I know that part. Police are already allowed to interrogate you indefinitely and you're only legally entitled to speak to a lawyer once (usually at the start, before you know how fucked you are).

I guess I meant something more directly in line with the US, due to the context of my original comment about following in their footsteps. But yeah, authoritarianism comes in many flavours. I suppose we have our own brand, given the rich history there.

In Alberta's case I'm more convinced every day that the very high number of American immigrants (historical and current) has something to do with it. If it stays within the province's borders, I'm okay with that, but it is something to keep an eye on.

Would be nice if Canada had real leftist politicians and not people like Mulcair, Horwath, and Singh (sorry Jagmeet, I like you but you're just not good enough). It frustrates me to no end that people in North America think the Liberals and Democrats are "the left."

"Don't fight back politically or we'll kill you."

Awesome! Totally reasonable and sane thing to say. I'm just hoping my country (Canada) can stay relatively unaffected by the brainrot that led to Project 2025.

I don't know how resilient we will be against rising fascism considering the high cost of living and the recent grocery price increases.

I'm in a group that plays Vampire: The Masquerade (tabletop roleplaying game) every Saturday night. So I will be pretending to be a vampire.

Sunday I'm going to a Thai street food festival with my wife, so I'm gonna try not to stay up too late.

So... where's this magic article with practical strategies? Like, cool blog post, but it's not as helpful to others if you're not sharing the resource you said helped you the most.

Found it: https://bamboo.beehiiv.com/p/a-practical-guide-to-overcoming-phone-addiction

I'm not sure why this is the focus rather than legislating that router/access point manufacturers create robust and simple to use parental controls and then running public service campaigns that educate parents on how to use them.

Not that I really care that much since I don't watch porn. I just don't think putting adult content behind a verification system that applies to everyone makes sense when the idea is to prevent kids, who generally have at least one person who controls the networking equipment and should be monitoring their devices/activity, from seeing it.

Fucking Christ, these technicalities are stupid. I'm trans, I'm a "biological" female in that my primary sex characteristics (my genitalia) are not male.

If you deny me access to medication that my doctor prescribes me due to my gender identity, which is only notable due to its lack of correspondence to my sex, how the fuck is that actually different from discriminating based on sex?

For small groups? 30 people (over 8 of whom are children) in a residential pool sounds absolutely gross even if it's not my pool and I'm not cleaning it.
