I’ve been collecting genealogical data for the last 15 years. You better believe I keep that organized, otherwise I would be screwed.

Best way to configure a NAS for the safest, most reliable (as in will not become unusable, not necessarily worried about potential downtime) and least succesptible to ransom? in c/[email protected]

Maybe you could try encrypting a volume that you will only use for backups and leave it unmounted when you aren’t using it?

When does it stop being homelab and become homeserver? in c/[email protected]

It’s a homelab when I’m just screwing around with some new software just to test it out. It becomes homeserver when I need to schedule maintenance windows to update things.

That’s part of the reason why I scaled back a lot of the stuff I had at home a few years ago. I maintain enough of this stuff at work. I don’t want to do it at home.
