I'm wondering if Reddit will just be a place for AI/bots to create/replicate content, and the people (read: "normies"/people who don't care what social media website they use as long as they can consume content) there will be interacting with said bots. All that just to drive traffic and appease shareholders.

Not sure if I'm just paranoid or if this is the case. I know that there are cases like this, but I wonder how deep it goes, or if it has been like that for a long time.

Wellp, long gone are the days of me typing a question and ending it with "Reddit", now it's 100% Lemmy/Kbin/Mastodon.

Go to Options > Share Folder (on the top, next to "Set Download Folder")

Then select the folder you want to share with all the music or videos in it and that's it.

You can set up a single folder that has subfolders, or you can share multiple folders separately, your choice.

No, you can see and interact with kbin.social content and users with your Mastodon account.

But to have an account in kbin.social you need to open an account there, you can't really login to a website with another website's credentials, just check and interact with its content.

Been using adblock for years now, I haven't seen a single ad on my devices since then.

Last week my wife used her iPad so we could watch a video and I saw 2 ads in a row, it was kind of a strange experience.

If a creator needs money I'll donate directly to them, and if the only way to support is ads, then what a shame, I'm not gonna watch ads just because of a creator.

I am a bit more active here than I was in Reddit because I feel like here we don't really find the toxicity we had on Reddit, at least in my opinion.

Thought I was the only one, I can't log in anymore either :(

Is there anything I should look out for in particular?

Not really, I mean, let me explain to you my process to see if that helps

First of all I have 3 backups... 1 in cloud, 1 in secondary ssd, 1 in external ssd. When I download something from a source that I'm not sure about specifically in 1337x I:

  • Check the comments first, if there are a majority of people complaining then I don't download
  • If there are no comments, I check the profile of the uploader and check comments on other uploads. Seeing this guys' other uploads it seems that his content is ok and there is no need to worry about it.
  • Just in case, or if I'm still not sure, I run it through virustotal.
  • If I'm STILL not sure, I just use a VM and install it on the VM. If something happens I just delete everything and my computer is fine. And even if somrthing happens I'm prepared to do a clean install without worrying about my files.

I'm not sure and someone can correct me please if I'm wrong, but if the drive is installed in the same computer it doesn't make a big difference. VM is always better imo.

It's a placeholder for a graphic or emoji. If somebody uses a symbol or an emoji and your device doesn't have it or support it, it gets replaced by that symbol, it shouldn't have to do with the app.

I don't know who that is, but I generaly encourage new pirates to download things that have comments so you can see whther it works, doesn't work, or it's a bad actor.

In rhis case I just wouldn't download at all due to the lack of comments. But if it's the only option you have, you can always try to download through a VM and check virustotal beforehand.

I just finished playing Resident Evil 4 remake for the first time and I'm gonna hop back in when I have the time

Completely agree with you, for me Reddit was also Sync, that's why I'm deleting my account on the 30th. Without Sync there is no Reddit for me.

And expecting the closure of old.reddit.com (because it's definitely gonna happen), not even the web version will be an option for me.

I completely forgot about the Tencent stake! Wasn't Reddit banned in China though?

I wish everything went back to normal (that includes the old Reddit design/website). And it's kind of unfair that a website that lives thanks to their user's content is the one earning the money and their users are getting stabbed in the back like this.

If anything, the API money should be going to creators/mods imo.
