Will take a look. If it uses a fork of kbin (with same API). I should be able to enable it pretty easily.

Hey y’all, it’s been a while. Had a rough month with a flare up of my chronic pain. Doing better now and had a chance to recharge. And I’m so dying to get back to contributing to the #fediverse community ✨❤️

Im taking a look on the app end 👀

I'm taking it slow because of some personal stuff I'm dealing with right now. But I'll be back soon. Appreciate y'all <3

Sorry about that! We had a big outage, find a report and timeline over here. It has been contained and fixes have been pushed. So hopefully things are stable now. But still monitoring and doing some more upgrades this weekend. [email protected] is the community dedicated to the instance.

We had an outage going from 5:35PM to 4:29AM. (times in pacific)

It calmed down by itself but service was quite slow. A proper fix was done at 8AM. At 9am a configuration update was pushed to prevent the scaling issue.

Timeline:

  • 5:35pm: outage starts, service was completely unavailable
  • 4:29am: traffic went down enough to allow some automatic recovery.
  • 7:50am: Start investigation
  • 8:04am: Just did a quick look and one of the nodes in the cluster was in a bad state. Orchestrator didn't catch it and kept it in rotation. Just took it down and got it back in shape. So hopefully y'all see an improvement now.
  • 8:52am: Just found a big issue with docker setup for /kbin. The guide for it is not really tested, so things aren't fully cover. But I found another guide for bare-metal (when running on a server) that has an important step for letting /kbin handle a lot more processes. Implementing this right now. So that should make a huge difference.
  • 9:21am: Alrigthy, pushed some config changes that should improve Artemis.camp performance. Will monitor latency over the next day to measure improvements.
  • 11:04am: Things seem to be stabler. Tho, will look at the end of the day 🙂

Heya! The plan is to support as much as what you can do on the site. But work on this will come once Artemis reaches a stable foundation. Based on demand, I might get ahead of some features sooner.

Long term, this is an area that I want Artemis to be richer than the site itself.

Sir/Ma'am, This Is A Wendy's.

Realizing in lemmy you can't see images uploaded with comments (kbin only). So sharing link to image

That’s why on Artemis I added a plus to the icon of a community. Has really helped with fleshing out my subs 👌

Nice! Must be fun to see the whole process end to end! How did you get started?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Gorgeous. How long have you been growing??

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Yay! And it’ll for sure evolve with user feedback. Hope to get the initial version out this weekend 🤞

Available on iOS

FYI, been working on figuring out the login bug with Artemis on Android. Have a lead, let's see if it pans out 🤞🏼

After that, it's looking at the issue tracker and prioritizing. So definitely react with thumbs up on things you want done ASAP.

At the same time, working on adding:

  1. User profile content feed
  2. Saving posts
  3. Microblogging
  4. Lemmy support

A lot of the things above have been in the works for weeks. So it seems like a lot but it's less work that what you might think :)

Getting close to a release candidate for next update and the public beta on https://artemis.camp instance!

Including new icons like Kibby and more! Really ironing things out in preparation for public beta! Gonna be a huge update for existing testers 😉

Back in June 13 I jumped ship from Reddit.

https://tech.lgbt/media_proxy/110539622656202665/original

I went with kbin but really needed an App. So I said I would make one... And, well, four hour later, I had the first prototype of what would become Artemis!

A Long But Short Way

It really hasn't been much but it feels like a LOT of time has happened. I blame the massive influx point we're at in the #Threadiverse. But also, just how much of a community has formed around Artemis. The Discord is only a few weeks old but has over 1,200+ users. So many people helping from every corner. And over 4,000 testers signed up!

Only 700 are actively using the private beta right now. That's soon about to change...

/kbin API

This PR adds an official API to /kbin, it's mostly done and in review.

During this time, Artemis has been using a homegrown API that uses browser automation to interface with /kbin. Great for the limited beta but not really scalable. Still, it allow me to build the foundation that makes the app today.

Once the API goes live, it'll be time to say goodbye to the scrappy backend. And hello to faster and more reliable everything.

Public Beta

Artemis is still in beta, tons I want to do and tons I want and have to fix/improve. But with no /kbin app in sight, I'll be opening up the beta within the next few weeks, based on how long the API PR takes.

To not make people in the queue wait longer. I'll be inviting our biggest wave of tester to try it out. Using the https://artemis.camp instance. A fork with the current API changes that are in development.

I'm preparing for that by wrapping up the integration with new API. Fixing some high pri bugs. And doing an accessibility pass, which some of our testers have already gotten ahead of!

Keep an eye on your inbox, our discord+matrix and this magazine for more info :)
