I do self-host some services but it bugs me that a lot of articles that talk about costs do not factor in a lot of additional costs. Drives for NAS need replacement. Running NUCs means quite an energy draw compared to most ARM based SBCs.

I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not.

Just in case it isn’t - it’s obviously reference to late DMX’s legendary song with the same title.

Sadly, this. Average consumer, and I don’t mean it as an insult, will not look for an alternative to streaming. All these giant streaming companies are gauging how far they can go to increase the profit margins.

Looks like a typical Stable Diffusion model. All of them have the same problem - lighting. It's always with that bad front facing "flash" effect.

It’s great that peak scientific minds are trying to create green, glowing monkeys. It’s not like humanity is bothered by plethora of problems. Let’s chill and torture some monkeys instead.

I think sadly you’d either way get much better performance with proprietary drivers especially if the focus is generative AI.

They can’t replace him post-qualifying. FIA rules.

Isn't having the mark part of the flex?

Meanwhile every trained model on Civit.ai produces 12/10 Asian women...

Joking aside, what you feed the model is what you get. Model is trained. You train it on white people, it's going to create white people, you train it on big titty anime girls it's not going to produce WWII images either.

Then there's a study cited that claims Dall-e has a bias when producing images of CEO or director as cis-white males. Think of CEOs that you know. Better yet, google them. It's shit but it's the world we live in. I think the focus should be on not having so many white privileged people in the real world, not telling AI to discard the data.

Sometimes it really seems like Max is playing a video game and everyone is in Race mode, but he's fucking doing "Time Trial"...

Weekly recommendation thread for older records. Things you keep going back to and want other people to appreciate.

Fuming Mouth - The Grand Descent (ffo: Gatecreeper, Trap Them, Nails)

I stumbled upon the band completely by accident, while skimming through Triple B's catalog. While not in line with the usual catalog of the label, it really is a nice blend of darkish death metal, crust and hardcore. Coupled with great artwork and Kurt Ballou's polish - the record really is a full package.

No Time - You'll Get Yours LP (ffo: slower Snapshot, The Flex, Violent Reaction)

I wish this band was less obscure and managed to record more than the LP and couple of singles. A very in-your-face-fuck-the-government-church-and-you record. It's fast. And simple.

Arkangel – Prayers Upon Deaf Ears (ffo: H8000)

Technically not a H8000 band, but the aesthetically and lyrically it's indistinguishable from bands like Congress or Liar. I somehow managed to miss it in it's prime time.

I use Navidrome. Really well made clients for anything, ability to select transcoding method (or lack thereof) based on a client, changing of following songs etc.

That's a problem with every non-physical storage of data/knowledge - it's ephemeral and can disappear anytime
