I wouldn't, because that wealthy person is a liar or plain stupid.
Wealthy people all know how to buy politicians. You don't outright offer money, you shower them with gifts, invite them to "dinner" with you at expensive places, set up superpacs which fund their election effort, etc.
If you're flying a low-cost/budget airline or domestic basic economy, i think you should - it guarantees you don't get bumped and you may get better seat choices.
If you're economy plus, a frequent flier or in a premium class, just roll up to the airport 60-90 minutes before your flight and you'll be fine.
