Requirements:

  • based on Debian GNU/Linux
  • easy to install/uninstall services

Services I'm interested in:

  • several crypto nodes: BTC, BCH, ETH light node (Helios), XMR, ZEC, etc.
  • Nostr
  • SimpleX
  • xBrowserSync
  • taskwarrior
  • Synchthing
  • Mastodon
  • vdirsyncer
  • Element/Matrix

Is using containers with docker/podman on plain Debian the best approach for simplicity?

Does it make sense to have more than one VPS? E.g. one for crypto nodes and another one for the rest?

If I understand it right,

  • the time-lock is from the time the recipient (Carol) starts decrypting the encrypted file sent by Bob.
  • future microchips, according to Moore's Law, will decrypt the file much faster.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

SimpleX has the best privacy, because of removing metadata.

Signal comes close, and has many more users. Probably some of your friends already use it.

If you want something similar to Telegram/Discord/Slack, then Element (Matrix) is what you're looking for.

All of the above are E2EE.

Apps that don't work:

  • Google Pay

As far that I know, that's it.

There's NewPipe, which is open-source.

Why not Element/Matrix?

Most cryptocurrency communities use Discord or Telegram. It's such an embarrasment.

You can just continue using Signal. All the alternatives will disappear from the app stores too unless they spy on you.

A recent alternative with even better privacy is SimpleX: https://simplex.chat/

If you need a Chromium derivative, then Brave is probably the best choice. It's open-source, and includes ad blocking. Just don't use its crypto token.

I prefer Firefox over Brave, but sometimes I might need a Chromium derivative for a particular site.
