currently in vc delusion, the public just doesn’t understand how to move about efficiently

the levels of not-even-wrong from these dipshits continue to be astounding

taking bets: did they name it after the one thing none of them have so they can finally claim to have some?

I’ve been wondering about this

One the one hand, military procurement (at least afaik) tends toward complete functional product

On the other hand, military R&D programs have been among the most spectacularly profligate financial black holes in recent decades

None of the options involved feel great, even if “it gets shunted from mil procurement and all industry claims get publicly brandished as the bullshit it is” comes to pass (which tbh still feels like an optimistic outcome, with unclear time horizons)

fwiw this link didn't jump me to a specific reply (if you meant to highlight a particular one)

I, too, have done the “all communication is manipulative”, but in the same way as one would do a bar trick:

all communication is manipulative, for any words I say/write that you perceive instantly manipulate (as in the physical manner / modifying state) your thoughts, and this is done so without you requesting I do so

it’s a handy stunt with which to drive an argument about a few parts of communication, rhetoric, etc. because it gives a kinda good handle on some meta without getting too deep into things

(although there was one of my friends who really, really hated the framing)

lemmy’s own post-formatting code

oh but see, it has at least 2-if-you-squint representations of things (and possibly more? it's been a while since I read the code). it's got "raw", which represents semi sorta whatever the user input

iirc it broadly takes that for a local render (as in on the site frontend)

and then it also makes a $something for the thing it sends out over ActivityPub

I do want to make it clear that I'm not carrying water for lemmy here, fwiw. this'd be a legit cool thing to add to things (whether the spape it took was "renders latex locally, and ships images remote" or whatever). just saying it might be hairy

I'd pipe up and go "uhhh hey prof, aren't you being paid to, like, impart knowledge?"

(I should note that I have an extremely deficient fucks pool, and do not mind pissing off fuckwits. but I understand it's not always viable to do)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago

yeah lemmy's got some real weirdo choices

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago (6 children)

off the cuff, this feels like a "don't cross the streams' thing

(there is that webfont or whatever thing for html latex, but having looked under the hood on lemmy's post handling I uhhhhhhh yeah)

neat idea though, maybe that should be a thing that philthy can do better
