@fearout These are so creative and beautiful! Love that you actually thought about the symbolism of each topic and worked that into the design!

And here is the The Unofficial Signal Messenger Community on the fediverse: link

@NotAPenguin Maybe, what is your interpretation of "Hey, boost == 2*upvote. Simple as that ;)"

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

@Mr_Figtree I'm pretty sure this is the issue as lemmy.world just updated to 0.18. They are being "re-linked" to kbin as we speak, https://kbin.social/m/[email protected] just popped up and timestamped as created 52 minutes ago. Perhaps something with caching? No idea, it goes beyond my area of knowledge but definitely something broke just a few hrs ago.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (4 children)

@Mr_Figtree It's broken because of the 0.18 update as linked by Alexmitter above...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

@Alexmitter Thanks for linking the relevant repo issue, that explains it.

@Mr_Figtree I am not 100% sure what you mean by "you need to search for them and interact with those communities for your instance to start pulling in content". The URL syntax for federated communities outside of kbin is fixed to https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]. So https://lemmy.world/c/bogleheads should work via https://kbin.social/m/[email protected] when federating properly. However it isn't even coming up in search at the moment: https://kbin.social/magazines?q=bogleheads

Perhaps something to do with the very recent lemmy.world update to 0.18.1-rc?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

@NotAPenguin

Yes it does. That's literally what Ernest said and I even linked his statement on that in the post. It would behoove you to read it.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

Negative, because spez is a dick and ernest is a cool dude. Having said that, Ernest is the person who build kbin (the software) and also kbin.social (this instance of the kbin software), amongst other things.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

I feel it's also important to add that, at least in my understanding, Ernest never meant to be next large content aggregator CEO. From what I gather, he is a dev first and foremost, who was publicly alpha-testing what he built as an alternative to lemmy. Somehow this test instance ended up being a reddit migration outlet which he is now trying to keep alive all the while developing its underlying software. That's at least two substantially different full-time jobs with very diverse objectives. It's a miracle it all works as well as it does, tbh.

The amount of apps being developed for iOS / Android is getting really crazy now and new apps keep popping up every day. Updated list below:

  • Artemis (iOS, Android, kbin, lemmy): link
  • Kbam (iOS, kbin, lemmy): link
  • Memmy (iOS, lemmy): link
  • Mlem (iOS, lemmy): link
  • Morpha (iOS, lemmy): link
  • Thunder (iOS, Android, lemmy): link
  • Beyond (iOS, Android, kbin, lemmy): link
  • Jerboa (Android, lemmy): link
  • Slide (Android, lemmy): link
  • Sync (Android, lemmy): link
  • Connect (Android, lemmy): link
  • Summit (Android, lemmy): link
  • Lemon (iOS, lemmy): link
  • Liftoff (iOS, Android, lemmy): link
  • Boost (Android, lemmy): link
  • Bean (iOS, Android, lemmy): link
  • WefWef (Web App, lemmy): link

Most apps on the list are lemmy apps, meaning they don't work with kbin. Artemis is specifically designed to work with kbin, not sure if or when any of the other ones will go in that direction or become interoperable as there are some challenges with the kbin API at the moment. Having said that, a new API is in the works (https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/pulls/357) so things should get better with time.

Some of the apps are in a very early stage of development so it may happen that they adjust OS availability and platform support.

Apparently, there was a ban 🥲

There are still bugs with Stage Manager and, look, this is not surprising given this is the first beta of iPadOS 17.

There are at least five apps that I know of currently in development for iOS. Unfortunately neither Memmy nor Mlem able to connect to kbin at the moment, something to do with the kbin-specific API from what @ernest, @BrooklynMan, and @gkd have said. Kmoon is specifically being developed for kbin and is multi-platform for iOS and Android (no TestFlight betas on that just yet):

Artemis (Kmoon): https://kbin.social/m/ArtemisApp
Memmy: https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]
Mlem: https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]
Morpha: https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]
Thunder: https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]
Lemur: https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]/t/58630/I-am-working-on-a-new-lemmy-app-for-iOS

P.S. I don't use Android but have seen Jerboa mentioned quite often: https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]

There is a substantial amount of spam and NSFW posts on the All page coming through already. Most NSFW posts aren't being tagged as such and are coming right through. I am not sure how this can be weathered but we need something in place fairly soon, I feel like we are days away from rivers of bad stuff, especially via some of the federated instances.

EDIT: I personally don't care much about the NSFW aspect, more in the lines of what a newcomer will be seeing when they get to the main page. 99% of the newcomers don't know / care about federation and have no idea how to turn that off. Liability for the server owner is also an element of consideration.
