Vic20 😆 -> C64 -> AmigaOS -> MacOS -> Slackware (much frustration!) -> MacOS -> Ubuntu -> EndeavourOS

I don’t use Ubuntu myself but I put Zorin on my dad’s computer. He 82 and he doesn’t know what an operating system is. He seems to be able to use it though 🤷

Australia seems especially shitty recycling e-waste. We’re probably supposed to do the same thing with electric toothbrushes but I bet no one bothers.

vapes (lemmy.sdf.org)

I went for a walk and found a vape on the ground. It had a symbol of a cross through a bin so I thought I should be a good citizen and dispose of this thing properly. I searched the internet and found an article that said to disassemble it, carefully cut the wires to the battery, put the liquid receptacle in the bin and drop the battery off at the local Officeworks for recycling. 🙄 The thing was solid, it had no screws and seemed to be impossible to open. At least you can put cigarette butts in the bin..

Amiga Workbench called them drawers. I'm sticking with drawers.

I stopped using Facebook 10 years ago, but I'm loathed to actually delete my account because every once in a while, a long lost friend or relative contacts me there. It would be a shame to lose touch with people. Ultimately I care about that more than privacy. It's the same with Whatsapp. I've made a concerted effort to convince my immediate family to try XMPP, Delta Chat and Signal, but they just won't install another app unless everyone they know is using it. I find it a bit frustrating, but that's reality. So I have to keep using Whatsapp.

Catchy 80s indie pop band from Sydney. The trumpet player Stephen went on to play in the Cannanes.

It can work. I used a dating website (pre smartphone) and I just put in a photo of myself sitting at my computer and a list of bands and movies I liked. My wife approved and asked me out on a date.

I would assume that it's open for anyone to use, just like mastodon.sdf.org

Me too. I've tried to get friends and family to join the fediverse, but they won't, because they're happy with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I think they might join Threads though if there's a huge critical mass of people on there. I would like a way to interact with them on social media without logging onto Facebook or Instagram myself.
