Exactly. I hate Reddit more than most people here (I'm a mod on a sub that has more than a million subscribers and felt disrespected by spez), but the fact of the matter is they're the gold standard of quality answers and discussions.
I would want Lemmy to get to that level, not immediately, but that's the dream.
Every other day, I get over how mad I was about the whole spez thing, and just focus on bettering our community and Lemmy in general.

I'm one of the many who deactivated not too long after it launched. My dashboard was just being filled with so many users (mostly celebrities and influencers) who I don't recall ever following or even being on my sphere of interest. It doesn't help that their posts are inorganic attempts to spur engagement.
VPN. I bought it during the pandemic not for privacy or government spy conspiracy shit, but because it was on "sale" (something like $40 for 38 months or something) and I wanted to try out if skirting geoblock was worth it.
