Zelda keeping the books (self.retrogaming)
submitted 3 days ago by daveB to c/[email protected]

I noticed today that bookkeeping and Zelda quests are the same. If you lose your spot or forget what you were doing it takes hours to get back on track.

I think I tried this in the past and ran into some issues

I’m in the habit of running old iPhones and iPods so I guess I just like to make my life difficult. I don’t have a MacBook though which is why I was stuck. I’m going to plug it in to my Linux laptop and see how it works

I did a nice strawberry rhubarb pie a couple summers ago that turned out nice 😋

I have found that this rhubarb has been a great companion for the apple tree as it shades the roots and competes well with the weeds such as the incessant and detestable buttercups

This morning I recalled a line from the Matrix series about “asking the right questions” which led me to this nice collection of quotes that someone has put together.

Enjoy and share your favourite quote.

I appreciate that this film series includes many views of spirituality and provokes us to think and ask important questions.

Cool thanks, I’m going to switch my business email next year sometime after I use up my business cards so I will check it out. Someone posted a great link with overviews of the different European email providers that was helpful.

I ended up going with Mailfence and set it up yesterday. It looks pretty simple and straightforward. Proton was another good option but I liked that Mailfence uses sustainable energy for its servers. I decided anything would be better than Microsoft or Google so it’s nice to see more options available.

Thank you for your reply.

I’m replying to my own post but I thought I would share a review that was very thorough and helpful. It compares Proton and Mailfence. I didn’t understand all the technical stuff but I understood enough.

Has anyone used Mailfence for email?

Does Tuta use POP for its email service then?

I have personal and business needs (I’m an entrepreneur in the construction industry).

I am just starting out and trying to keep operational costs down. Proton has a free option and then some pay plans as well so it could work.

Some say they are carbon neutral with their servers which I also like since they all take electricity to run.

Thank you for your questions to my questions, probably there will be more questions

Cool thanks, I saw that one on the website link someone else posted

So many choices!

Good website, it shows sustainable choices and also integration to other apps

AI and Morality (self.philosophy)
submitted 2 months ago by daveB to c/[email protected]

Has anyone attempted to build moral principles into an AI model?

I was thinking about Adam Smith the other day. He is considered the father of modern economics. Many of his philosophies focus on division of labour and free and open trade. He is also credited with establishing many core ideas included in Capitalism which some view as pure evil and others view as good for everyone.

A few questions:

  1. Does capitalism tend to gravitate towards fascist ideologies?
  2. Is a system that generates wealth intrinsically bad?
  3. Who should oversee the equal distribution of wealth in a society? Who decides what is fair?
  4. Adam Smith, Economist, Capitalist, or Fascist or all of the above?

Hopefully I have phrased things clearly. I realize I’m covering quite a few different topics. I have been recently studying philosophies of fascism to better understand the main ideas they promote.

I know this is a children’s book but I bought it for me. It seemed very relevant to our present situation.
