The reporter alleges that Russia has taken some 9000 children and it would seem that at least some of them have been undergoing Russian military training. While involuntary rounding up of Ukrainian children and deporting them to Russia or Russian occupied territories constitutes a war crime, let’s not forget that the USA, bastion of human liberty and rights, separated more than 5500 children from their parents at the border, beginning in 2017 through the period of the Trump administration. Families endured separation for years. As of 2022 some 545 children had not yet been reunited with their parents, and of that number, the whereabouts of 362 could no longer be traced. Children and families do not matter to fascists.

Earlier clicked create post, saw that the news link I was about to post had already been submitted, then tried to exit the page and could not. Had to go to the URL field to return to lemmy.world front page and was greeted with a 'Are you sure you want to leave the site?' message.

Me too. I used to spend hours on Reddit. Joined back in the day when Digg users migrated to Reddit. I do miss some of the subs, but I've also become bored with so much of the recycling. Lemmy and Kbin are relatively new, but I welcome the open source concept behind federation, and here's an opportunity to invest in creating and being part of communities that own their contributions.

Is phage therapy at all relevant or applicable in vaccine development?

While the viral nature of the “phage” was only widely accepted in the 1940s, attempts to use the phenomenon in treating infections started early. After raising hopes in the interwar years, by 1945 phage therapy had been abandoned almost entirely in the West, until the recent revival of interest in response to the crisis of antibiotic resistance.

'The deputy president of the P-Hailing Organisation of Malaysia estimates 20 per cent of the 403,637 post-SPM examination students to enter the food delivery industry, known locally as p-hailing, as riders this year due to job and financial constraints.

'...The newspaper previously reported on June 1 that more than 458,000 SPM graduates are estimated not to further their studies in the next three years.

'It cited statistics from an unnamed source showing that 48.74 per cent or 180,680 SPM graduates in 2021, an increase from the 35.16 per cent, or 115,939 SPM graduates in 2020, stopped their education after taking the final secondary school examination in Form Five.'

Not at all timed to coincide with Blinken's Beijing visit /s

QUOTE ...Facing an economic slowdown, soaring youth unemployment and an anemic investment climate, Chinese officials are keen to host Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo to address U.S. technology restrictions on China and other economic matters. As part of this pro-business push, Xi met with Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates on Friday — a meeting that followed visits to Beijing by JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, Starbucks CEO Laxman Narasimhan and Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk.

But rather than acquiesce to Chinese preferences that top U.S. economic advisers travel first, the White House insisted that Blinken, one of Biden’s closest confidantes, be the first to Beijing, according to people familiar with the negotiations.

As a result, Chinese officials view the Blinken visit as a necessary step to unlock follow-on meetings with more immediately desired officials who focus on economic matters, analysts said.

“The most that can be hoped for is the Blinken visit sets the stage for later visits by Secretaries Yellen and Raimondo,” said David Dollar, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. “China’s concerned about various trade and technology restrictions but [Blinken’s team] are not the right people to negotiate on those issues.” UNQUOTE

Coffee production in Malaysia has a ways to go yet. The Edge Magazine reported in 2020 on some of the challenges faced by coffee planters, those planting Sabarica (https://theedgemalaysia.com/article/cover-story-wake-and-smell-sabarica). Meanwhile, the Agriculture Ministry reported in 2021 that coffee yield in 2020 was just 4,241 tonnes! (https://www.malaymail.com/news/money/2021/10/01/agriculture-dept-ready-to-assist-coffee-entrepreneurs-in-malaysia-says-depu/2010018) There's potential, but again, it's labour-intensive ... maybe Malaysia would do well to experiment with harvesting robots, to relieve the labour pressures across the industry.

The point is protein. Wheat gluten and soy products are meat substitutes for their protein value. Dairy is an option for vegetarians who are not opposed to animal products, but vegans shun it.

Testing the beta of memmy, using iOS on my iPhone, and unable to log into lemmy.world. The app reports an error: 'email_not_verified'.

Could there be an issue with the database and my account? The app's dev assures me that he is able to log into lemmy.world with the app, so the server is not blocking memmy. Is there an issue with my email not having been verified? But then, how was I able to create my account on lemmy.world without verifying my email?

Using on iPhone with iOS 15.7.6 with TestFlight. Prompted to create an account or log in to existing account. Chose the latter. Keyed in my server (https://lemmy.world), next keyed in my u/n, and then my password. Reported error: 'email_not_verified'. Unable to log in.

UPDATE: Thanks to @[email protected] (memmy dev) and @ruud (lemmy.world admin), now able to sign in. Ruud reported that curiously my email had not been verified when I signed up and created an account on lemmy.world.
