as a young IT with friends who dont know much about IT i have to say that most around 20 use reddit, instagram, ... cause its the only thing they know. everyone they know uses them and many of them want likes, ...

if they would join the fediverse:

  1. they wouldnt understand how it works. what is a server? why choose an instance? its just too complicated
  2. all their friends dont use the fediverse. they would be alone and have nobody who they can share things to
  3. they would mostly see tech stuff and less in categories they are interested in
  4. none of the people they follow on instagram are here. the cant follow their celebrities, ... and see their content
  5. the fediverse still has to less users to be successful worldwide. its growing. and just like facebook in its first years, its growing slow.

=> give it a few more years and get your friends, family & collegues on here and see the fediverse grow

less really is more with more features. and more IS less with less features

did you know there is a vim tutor for learning how to vim?

Im aware of that, thanks. Its just that all my friends & collegues still use Instagram. And if I quit there I dont have any contact over internet at all with them except for a few.

I also have a PixelFed account but dont really use it.

I dont like Instagram at all, just all my friends are over there. And I hope some of them join here soon.

Yeah.. todays social media is more a commercial ad platform than social media.

the fediverse is the new 'futuristic' social media since its main goal is to connect people and make social media more social

Great idea for when you start in IT! Always had trouble first year in my apprenticeship when i had accidentally opened vim. Ask for first time and after 2 months not used.

Did someone already open a pull request?

I use Hostinger VPS KVM 2 for personal uses. 8GB 2vCPU, 100GB SSD. 1 Snapshot & weekly Backups.

+ Many options for OS/ Management and great support!

If you want to self-host services, check out Yunohost. There you can install many different services like Vaultwarden as a password manager, Nextcloud for files, Blogging platforms, Mail services, ... You could use a Raspberry Pi as a server like i do. Otherwise, you could also use an old dekstop PC or some free VPS Best you can do with the domain is registering at cloudflare; there you have a lot of options to manage your domain.
