What's some basic advice for this? I love in an area where ice is a bigger issue, but the more I can ride the better.
The names are fucking stupid, but man having some choice is really nice.
I know it's for like donations and grants, but I choose to imagine they are paid $100k+ just cause they are really good a gift wrapping and ideas.

That's called being passively suicidal. Currently dealing with that myself, and I would recommend talking to a professional about it if you're not already.
That's a kind of setup I would roll with as a kid for fun. Ignoring the fact I had a bed or literally anywhere else that would be more comfortable.
