I have Exos drives (which are probably more enterprise 24/7), and I don’t really see a difference to normal everyday consumer use HDDs. They’re just loud af, which is honestly a huge drawback

That said, I’ve only ever had one HDD fail, and these have only been running 24/7 for about a year

If they’re not that much more, might be worth it for the NAS drives. Just depends how important your data is and how much you value peace of mind

My thought on this has always been: if you care about your data (family photos, music), then you should spend the money to get new drives

But a lot of people hate this, and argue that if your backups work properly then you can buy any HDD you want regardless of abuse or how old it is.

I just want my shit to work and not have to worry about it so I buy new

People naively rushing to the website expecting some kind of Black Friday deal

Really? I feel like people are talking about WD failures all the time on here

The Seagate’s seem dead reliable as long as you don’t get the cheapest option

The thing I keep seeing left out is that 8GB of RAM is also shared with the GPU, which will eat into it tremendously

I have a feeling the 8GB of RAM is their new approach to planned obsolescence. Almost every used device you see for sale right now has 256GB and 8GB of RAM. So the sales figures on those were absolutely insane.

The native Apple silicon has gotten so good that you could use it for years to come, but the 8GB of RAM will be what makes your machine slow/unusable.

This is just my theory though. 8GB of RAM will force you to upgrade sooner

Always wondered why people recommended these drives
