It starts like that and then the people running scripts and other power players take over

And widely known. Once it's started, most people know what you're going for.

One of several secondary reasons why making a Fediverse reference on Place is so hard to maintain is that the Fediverse is built for far less uniformity and tribe mindset.

Edit, I did say one of several secondary reasons. I have no illusion that I've spotted the #1 main reason.

My opinion is that touch screens should be for passengers only. Display screens are fine, but if physical buttons are so unacceptable, then we need voice control that actually works.

Also, I'm surprised no one has started a company to retrofit buttons and switches into modern cars. Whatever kind of headache that would be to design and install, I'd like to see it work.

I think if a thing like Place were made for Lemmy, it would need to be so different to fit the values of the Fediverse that it would need a new name. Different rules, different way of interaction, different output.

I use it kind of like WD-40 in a farm setting. It's messy, but not as messy as grease. It's effective to coat things that constantly wear and have started to rust. I also rub it on my leather boots to waterproof it for cheap.

This is perfect for the situation above

I don't understand most of those terms, but uh, sounds good?

Permission toggles that mean something, battery life and no bloat ware sound great to me.

I think sci-fi writers constantly make their stakes far too high, stack the odds far to heavily against the protagonists, and go for a scope far to broad. I don't need 3 people to save the entire intergalactic population from a super mega back hole bomb with .002 seconds to spare. I've seen it and read it a thousand times.

Give me the guy who thinks maybe his spaceship could take on exploring one planet, tell me what he finds and why it was wise for him to run home and call for extra resources to be redirected to that planet. Tell me how the technology of your imaginary world brought 2 characters together and allowed them to build a beautiful life together.

That's why I adore The Martian and can't get excited about Star Wars.

This mod seems familiar. They may be the offending party behind my worst experience on Reddit, and the only mod I ever blocked.

Handed me a temporary ban for responding to a post written to the wrong sub. They didn't have time to write out a redirect link to copy and paste for lost redditors, but did have time to mark me as trouble and berate me when I suggested redirecting users. Since a temporary ban "wasn't enough," they gave a longer ban so I would "learn my lesson."

Really put a damper on my whole reddit experience.

I made an account on Kbin, and I'm looking at posts from Lemmy and BeeHaw and Kbin and sometimes I forget to even check what the source is.

So am I accessing Lemmy through Kbin? Am I seeing the entire Fediverse through Kbin's interface? Am I reading Kbin, which gets its content from across the Fediverse?

In short, I'm wondering what the local terminology is for what I signed up for and what I'm seeing when I pull up Kbin.

#fediverse

This is very much what this is like. Kbin and Lemmy do not have to confirm to reddit's norms. I'm glad it's different here.
