There is a rule still, but not of law. We live in an era of total might makes right, with not a shred of legality to be found. If you don't have resources or violence, you have nothing. We have no institutional recourse and only our labor as power. We are all effectively slaves who can be sent to death camps at any time if we don't use our single bargaining chip every month, so put all the labor you can afford to into providing essential services and goods for neighbors (healthcare isn't available for us any other way, so start there)

Products and services should only be findable when you actually need them. Think using a search engine to find a specific good, or a business sign labeling an establishment. Such bare bones information could be considered advertising, but it does less to to drive human behavior than facilitate it. It's not convincing you to get something, but helping you get what you already decided you need.

The advertising problem, like all problems in capitalism, stem from the ever increasing desire to outcompete and be the only power in town; the need to not just meet the needs of society, but have more power than everyone else in society. Competition drives innovation, but to what end?

Spoiler alert: the end is holding power over fellow men, not making life better for you or them. This evolutionary force optimizes for something other than you as an individual, just like Darwinian evolution.

Principled empathy is sufficient, but there are other ways, so it isn't necessary. So long as a person without empathy believes it's in their self interest to be good to others, they will. The problem is that fascists believe their lives will be better by being evil, even though anyone from the top is a miserable bastard chasing a false dream. what makes me hopeful is that those conversations aren't even seen as necessary in other fields, while psych is staffed by a generation of people who realize just how important it is to respect the people your working with

Did you actually watch She Ra? Did you ever get to the part where Adora realizes the royal superweapon is a mistake and works to undermine her destiny wielding it? Did you ever get to the point where the princess that does seek to wield that power ends up fucking everything up for everyone? Did you ever notice that the entire message of the show is to reject power seeking nonsense in favor of living happy and free with those you love? How power will not make you happy but loving your gay friend will?

Also, how pacifism doesn't work against violent invaders; that happens fairly early on. She Ra deeply questions the entire concept of the show from top to bottom, all while being a fully functional children's show about princesses with superpowers.

The only way it could do a "better job" would be by not being about princesses at all, but then the kids who actually need those anti establishment lessons wouldn't watch it. Instead, the queer creators made a show originally designed to sell toys into something more. There will never be another show like it, because despite it being a good show, it probably made less money for it's quality than every other show in the IP
