i'm afraid that if NoA wins this, console manufacturers might start slapping DRM into their consoles, and therefore making them (legally) unemulatable and potentially discouraging development of modern console emulation.

now sure, this is a piracy sub, but i'm not sure if the yuzu devs are keen into piracy...

i also wonder if there's any way to fight back. people who dump their legal copies are being screwed as well.

There's a port of melonDS to Android at https://github.com/rafaelvcaetano/melonDS-android. Keep in mind you'll need a CPU capable of running AArch64 instructions and a 64-bit OS if you want dynarec support.

that's called source-available

this is one of the reasons i'm afraid to visit japan. not just immigration.

and btw, fair use isn't a thing over there IIRC. not that would had mattered as gameplay recordings are very derivative.

if it explicitly granted patent rights i would definitely use it for software tbh

this person seems to hate piracy just because it's illegal...

(reminder about homosexuality being illegal in most countries in the middle east)

If you're willing to sacrifice the perks of using YT with a Google account (commenting, uploading videos, history and playlists saved in cloud, paid content, mostly anything else that might require an account), then I'd recommend NewPipe (especially the fork that incorporates SponsorBlock).

Despite the sacrifices, you don't actually need Play Services in order to use the app, and the playlists/history stuff is made up by storing that locally in your device. It's FOSS under GPL, too!

It also lets you watch other stuff that isn't on YT (Soundcloud, CCC, Bandcamp, PeerTube and most likely others that I forgot), and even lets you download the stuff on them!

Yeah, you're right. Just because they can doesn't mean they have to. We might not know what they're up to behind doors and for me it's horrifying to know the potential damage but hopefully it's in good faith.

You had me until you mentioned blockchain technology. How would a blockchain system help in that regard, anyway?

http://crimeflare.eu.org list reasons why not to use Cloudflare, though IDK if it's just ultra-privacy oriented warnings or something else...

Not sure if I should be upset, although the claim of CF potentially sniffing passwords/credit card details/other sensitive information across various websites sounds plausible to me (some websites even have a TLS cert verified by "Cloudflare, Inc."!) 🤷‍♂️
