It could be reevaluated if we see problems, but I don't see it making a big difference. It's easy enough to create a throwaway account with any email provider that would be functionally identical to a "temporary one".

TheDude wants donations to be entirely optional, and this runs counter to that. Making sure everyone is aware of the Agora will be enough (for now) to combat bad actors, we have the numbers as long as everyone participates.
While true, we already have tools to work around it here. Accounts can be flagged as bots, and you can auto-hide posts from bot accounts.
I'm assuming an auto-mod would bypass that by design, but it'll work against the flood of student projects that Reddit threads were full of.
The waterproofing has been solved, but the real issue is that device size and/or battery capacity is going to be affected. And with the resiliency of modern batteries, you're making design sacrifices for something that won't affect most users.
Sure, it was nice being able to swap a fresh battery in on the fly. But these days you can also just get a decent power bank for less money than a proprietary battery pack.
A middle ground would end up being better for everybody. Keep the batteries as they are now, but make the phones a bit easier to open (and use fasteners instead of adhesives).
If you don't already have a decent file manager, Mixplorer is around $5. The dev also offers free APK downloads, but supporting the project (and the convenience of auto-updates from Play Store) is well worth the price.
There are other options available, and any of them will be an improvement over what came on your phone, but Mix is a solid all-in-one.
Something like this wouldn't cause an explosion, just a future failure point that could open up and leak. Explosions are pretty rare and caused by excess pressure in the tank, usually either a relief valve getting stuck or a thermostat malfunction.
I'd still get this unit replaced to avoid future headaches, but it wouldn't be an immediate safety risk.
There are situations where it can be helpful, but in general I don't think intentional cross-posting is going to help. It could just as easily homogenize the communities and stifle what momentum we do have.
Communities will establish themselves organically over time, as we've seen with every platform before this. Trying to force it, or really influence the process at all, is just as likely to rub some folks the wrong way and lead to more fragmentation.
Until things settle, it seems like a more effective tactic is to choose where you want to focus your attention and add to the content in a natural way. Instead of cross-posting, just decide on a "main" community for any given topic for yourself and contribute there in a meaningful way. If another community in the same space looks like it's taking over, reevaluate where you want to place your focus. Help build somewhere for the sake of building, but not for the sake of the numbers.
Alternatively, just ignore the "problem" completely and trust the process. Post in the first relevant community that springs to mind. Engage with posts as they come through your feed without paying any mind to the size of the source. The most important thing is increasing total user count across the Fediverse, and diverse activity can be a huge drive for that.
Counterpoint: being able to drink a cup of coffee then immediately take a nap leads to the most restful 20 minutes of sleep you'll ever have.
Sure I'd rather be affected normally by caffeine, but at least it isn't a total wash.
They don't care, at worst they just assume you're buying them for a kid. It takes a lot more than that for a cashier to even notice.
So go get some smiles, those things are delicious.
Coherence was much better than I expected when I first saw it, they really stuck the landing on the organic improv approach. And it's even more impressive given the premise, quantum anything has the potential to get messy.
For some similar microbudget stuff, I'd recommend Moorhead & Benson's first few projects together. The "M&B cinematic universe" of Resolution, The Endless, and Synchronic is a fun ride.
I'm not surprised by the speed since the protests were so public. But in the case of the Tumblr sub it sounds like a "power mod" revealed themselves as an actual admin, and that does surprise me if it's true.
We always knew admins used alts, and suspected that's who some/most power mods were, but this would be the first time I've seen them take the mask off so blatantly.
