the Ryzen 7040 Series platform

Sounds like the CPU, though it may just be the first generation chipsets.

There are potential compatibility/stability issues with anything less than 5600.

Right now I'm on T480 that I got because it was the last model they made with an external battery.

The biggest difference between the two processors is the iGPU, if you're not getting it for gaming it's definitely not worth it. If you were getting it for gaming, the performance increase is pretty minor and still probably wouldn't be worth it.

Also the up and down arrow keys being miniature, and the page up/down and home/end requires both the arrows and the fn key from the opposite side of the keyboard.

I was excited at first, but the price still seems a bit high for both the factory seconds displays and the performance drop from older hardware. Too bad about the lack of i5 boards, that would've probably helped.

My understanding is that the iGPU performance is heavily effected by RAM. Make sure you're using 5600Mhz RAM, make sure you're using both slots for increased bandwidth, and low latency (CAS 40) RAM will also improve performance.
