Thank you for the transcription, human volunteer :)

The sequence of events from Elon Musk acquiring Twitter to now is an incredible journey.

  • Elon Musk bought a social media company for tens of billions, attempted to back out of the deal but couldn't because of his ineptitude by signing away the ability to reneg on the deal.^[1]

  • Then there was the freedom of speech advocacy from Musk where he ultimately unbanned racists and then he began sharing bigoted Tweets. But it's only freedom of speech for his bigoted supporters, when authoritarian governments ask Musk to censor people/tweets he abides by their requests.^[2]

  • The site becomes inundated with the alt right rife with bigotry.^[3]

  • The whole verified blue check mark debacle where verification became something you could pay for, with people making fake "official" accounts. For example a fake account impersonating a pharmaceutical company caused their stock to drop abruptly following a joke tweet.^[4]

  • Twitter engages in mass layoffs and multiple things break on the site. There are also reports that they can't pay rent in certain locations. Twitter is hemorrhaging advertisors, as they record a 59% reduction in advertising revenue.^[5]

  • Elon Musk posts tweets seemingly apologizing for some of the changes and says he will follow the will of the people by posting polls for users to vote on policy changes. Musk asks if he should step down, to which the majority vote in favour of his removal. He then goes on a tirade about bots after losing in the poll. He goes on to say that only paid subscribers will be permited to vote in future polls. Vox Populi, Vox Dei.^[6]

  • The crème de la crème is Elon Musk implementing a new restriction where you have to be logged in to see tweets. Inadvertently DDOSing his own site.

Cursed image lol

I had that bear beanie when I was a kid! Unfortunately I lost it a few years ago.

I'm a RiF refugee too. Used it for almost a decade, now that it's gone I find the official app to be very difficult to use.

The Fediverse has been really cool and I'm glad I took the jump. I was apprehensive at first, but I've found Lemmy to be pretty fun so far!

Good signing for United! Love the way Mount plays, he's the type of profile we needed.

Probably overpaid considering he's on the last year of his contract and had an abysmal season last year, but he's home-grown and has won multiple POTY awards.

Hopefully this means we'll move on from Fred. We need to start selling due to FFP, and invest in a GK & Striker.

They demanded £70m for Mount from the outset.

United offered £55m plus an additional £5m in reportedly difficult to achieve bonuses.

Some reports are saying he failed the medical. While other reports are saying that the club didn't meet the player's wage demands.

The fight for the top 4 is going to be interesting this year.

Yea it'll definitely be interesting!

  • Liverpool going through a transitional phase, but they have quality both on and off the pitch.

  • Chelsea had a tumultuous year, but they're having a major clear-out and a new manager. Perhaps they'll turn it around next season, with a young squad and a manager that had historically done well with a younger squad that buys into his ideas.

  • Manchester United is undergoing a sale which has hampered their summer window business. Will the manager have enough time in pre-season with his new players to implement his style of play?

  • Newcastle have added an incredible midfielder in Tonali. He was the heart and soul of the Milan midfield, a great leader too. Newcastle can definitely challenge for top 4 again.

  • Spurs recently signed a new manager, although they've been struggling to build a coherent squad. Will be interesting to see how they get on.

  • Arsenal are coming off a very difficult season after losing out on the title in the final weeks in spectacular fashion. Will the young core be able to bounce back? The owners have gone all in and are investing heavily in multiple positions, showing great ambition while adding quality players. They will definitely challenge for top 4, possibly the league again.

  • City are City... an absolute machine that just won't stop.

  • Personally think Villa are the dark horses to challenge for top 4 next year. Emery is cooking something special in Birmingham, can definitely see they make a cup run at least.
