Probably the same reason everyone doesn’t just talk English.

If you consider 10.99 (for criterion channel or other streaming platforms) too big a risk then the only option you leave open is piracy. All other options require you to spend money with the possibility that you might not like it.

Why do you call her Barbie? It implies that she’s hot but she’s not. I mean from afar she kinda looks hot I guess but once you close in she looks like a dried mango.

So when does the movie come out?

It’s most definitely not. The ROG Crate app is pretty good. And if you spend a few minutes setting up shortcuts, everything becomes a whole lot easier. But I basically never touch the windows layer on my ally anyways.

Every time I read a take like this I remember that quote about people being able to see the end of the world but not the end of capitalism. Why are we worried about an economic crisis instead of imagining a post scarcity world in which we automate all labor? Maybe I’ve got too much of an optimist in me.

I saw the Netflix series and the first season was amazing, like one of my favorite TV series ever so definitely will check it out. Sad that the second season was so… stale I guess? I think Anthony Mackey is just not a very good lead actor.

That depends a lot on what you’re playing and what your expectations are. I use my Ally to play older games and indies and I feel like it’s great for that. AAA experiences I play on my Xbox Series X.

I have a friend who’s had every handheld and he says they all suck, but he’s expecting to play stuff like COD at high settings and 60fps. That’s just not realistic.

But again I’m coming from growing up with gameboys and Nintendo DS so I don’t have the expectations that someone who grew up in the HD generation might have.

I think a lot of the hype is because it’s the first of its genre. It does for cyberpunk what LOTR did for Fantasy I guess and in that regard I can understand the hype.

Also he’s very good at using simile and metaphors to give a feel to the world and to kind of separate the genre from science fiction. He does some nice things by describing organic stuff using artificial qualities. Like of course you have the iconic “The sky above the port was the color of TV tuned to a dead channel”. But then there’s this other part where Case takes this potent drug and the description is something like his bones became chrome under silicone or something along those lines that I thought was awesome. But the plot itself gets lost in all these very vivid descriptions and how he literally moves from one scene to the next without anything indications.

Neuromancer.

I loved Cyberpunk 2077 and everyone keeps saying that it’s a rehash of Neuromancer so I had to give it a go.

I’m enjoying it but I feel like I might need to read this more than once, the writer’s style is strange to say the least and I feel like I’m never quite understanding what’s going on. I’m not finished but so far I think Cyberpunk’s plot hits harder, but that’s probably because I’m a brainlet maybe.

Also slowly working through Prologomena For Any Future Metaphysics. I’m trying to read Marx but to read Marx I need to read Hegel and you can’t read Hegel without reading Kant so here I am.

I bought mine used with the SD card slot busted and I still think it’s great. Maybe because I didn’t pay 600 bucks for it!Definitely my favorite handheld ever.

I think the Steam Deck is pretty neat and I love the design of the device itself (I am not enthusiastic about the Ally’s L337G4mer aesthetics, and even less so with the monstrosity above), but for me not having access to Gamepass is a deal breaker so I’d never consider it. Maybe when I fully jump into PC gaming sometime soon I’ll switch my tune. But I digress. Other than the SD issue I’ve found that the ROG Ally is a very capable device and I have seen no other issues with it to be honest. The software it comes with is actually pretty good and makes it so that you don’t have to deal with Windows almost at all. The coolest thing is that you can dock it and you basically have a mid end workstation too.

My fist handheld was the Gameboy Color so it just boggles my mind how far we’ve come.

What do you mean? The ROG Ally has been successful. It’s a great device.

I’ve been permabanned from Reddit for harassment. I was fucking with some guys that liked anime in a non anime subreddit, I simply called them Chinese cartoons and they got mad, bigly. Anyways I trolled too much using that account so apparently they figured it was better to cut me off the website entirely. I would like to use Reddit still, but every account gets banned as soon as I make it. It tells me I can appeal but I can’t actually because that was more than a year ago.

If I delete that account and all associated accounts, and make new account not associated with them (new email), will it get banned too? I know reddit bans are not just IP bans but also use device ID and all that shit. Will I have to buy a new computer exclusively for Reddit? Or does my device becomes unflagged the moment I delete the banned account?

I need help with this shit. I like lemmy but there’s just not enough people here.

Since Meta announced they would stop moderating posts much of the mainstream discussion surrounding social media has been centered on whether a platform has a responsibility or not for the content being posted on their service. Which I think is a fair discussion though I favor the side of less moderation in almost every instance.

But as I think about it the problem is not moderation at all: we had very little moderation in the early days of the internet and social media and yet people didn’t believe the nonsense they saw online, unlike nowadays were even official news platforms have reported on outright bullshit being made up on social media. To me the problem is the godamn algorithm that pushes people into bubbles that reinforce their correct or incorrect views; and I think anyone with two brain cells and an iota of understanding of how engagement algorithms works can see this. So why is the discussion about moderation and not about banning algorithms?
