I think there's a difference between meme and a completely made up Tweet (or any social media post) where a non-user would not be able to tell if the Tweet is real.

This kind of misinformation (OP) should either be tagged or not allowed at all. Like, most of us understand it's a joke but still, maybe we should have better standards than other sites.

Maybe, but if we convince enough people to leave their homes, maybe we can be loud enough to call for change...

We really need to tax the mega rich. I compiled this list of numbers after the President speech last night, it's kinda wild:

$ 99,000 - National Median Income is less than $100 thousand.
$         1,000,000 - 1 Million Dollars.
$ 485,000,000 - Cut Funds to International Relations and whatever.
$ 1,000,000,000 - 1 Billion Dollars. There are over 400 Billionaires in America.
$ 22,000,000,000 - Cut Funds to American Social Serivces through HHS (Human & Health Services).
$   244,000,000,000 - Elon Musks Net Worth.
$ 1,620,000,000,000 - 1 Trillion Dollars - Meta (Facebooks) Corporate Net Worth.
$19,900,000,000,000 - The U.S. Deficit in Jan 2017 (Obama to Trump)
$27,800,000,000,000 - The U.S. Deficit in Jan 2021 (Trump to Biden)
$36,000,000,000,000 - The U.S. Deficit in Jan 2025 (Biden to Trump)

(List of Mentioned Trump Cuts)

During Trumps address to the Nation or whatever you want to call it, he mentioned no tax on tips. This has been something that he's talked about before but has not yet passed.

I'm not necessarily against no tax on tips, but I feel like that's going to inflate gigconomy (Uber, Lyft, Doordash, etc.) and further exacerbate gigconomy.

On the other-hand, times in the U.S. are probably gonna get tough, and tips might be the only way some of these small businesses survive. I'm not talking Starbucks and Walmart either.

What do you think about no tax on tips, tip culture, and gigconomy in general?

The Democrats seemed unorganized, nobody is leading them like Trump is leading Republicans. Here's a gimmick I'd like to see them use next time.: Every time Trump says a blatant lie - call it out - LOUD. One by one, watch how many people get thrown out throughout the speech.

22 Billion cut to HHS is a ton though. Surely that will go toward paying down the deficit? Good on Green for bringing attention to it.

I made a list of all the cuts Trump mentioned:

Million(s) Description
$45 International school scholarships (labeled DEI) - [International Relations]
$40 Some kind of international social services? - [International Relations]
$8 Promoting international LGBTQ+? Is this research funding or international relations? - [International Relations]
$60 Indigenous people in central america? Like, international relations? - [International Relations]
$8 Making mice transgender? Like, research? - [Research]
$32 Some kind of left wing propaganda operation in buldova? - [Spy Shit]
$10 Promoting male circumcision in MoseHamBeak? idk - [Weird] [International Relations]
$3.5 Consulting contract for fish monitoring? Like, research? - [Research]
$1.5 Voter confidence in Liberia? Like, trying to help them secure a democracy? - [International Relations]
$14 Social coheasion in Mahli? - [International Relations] [Spy Shit]
$59 Illegal alien hotels in New York. idk - [Yeah, Alright]
$42 Increase vegan local climate action innovation in Zambia? - [What?]
$14 Social and behavior changes in Ughanda? Is this more research funding and is it ethical? - [idk] [Research]
$47 Improving public procurement in Serbia? [Spy Shit]
$101 DEI contracts at the Department of Education? [American Investment Cuts]

(List of Cuts Mentioned by Trump)

$485 Million cut funds to international relations, research, spy shit, and whatever else. I guess the question is, what are they going to do with the 485 Million? Presumably the $22 Billion cut in American Human & Health Services (HHS) is going toward paying down the deficit, right?

Did anyone else see this weird interaction? Who is this guy Trump is talking to?

I made a list of cuts mentioned by Trump during his address to Congress and The Nation. I also made a neat little comparison of dollars at the end.

Million(s) Description

Any details about the cut international funding and research? What were your thoughts from the address overall?

What a wild speech.... a lot of fear mongering for sure.

Imagine traveling down a liminal space of tubes and the only signs are nondescript TLDs.

No sir, I don't like it.

What's the explanation? AWS sounds like ad trackage.

I believe this is regarding the proposed budget by the House Budget Committee.

This is a low-effort intro discussion. What's something currently going on in the U.S. that you'd like to briefly discuss or vent about? For longer discussions or broader topics, please make a separate topic :)

This is a United States of America discussion board first and foremost. Ironically, this means that unfortunately, Constitutional Free Speech is out the window to ensure that honest, on-topic, civil, and informed discussions can take place. Don't go out of your mind providing sources to everything, but ensure to do your own due diligence and keep others in check as needed. Most of all, know when to walk away. If you feel nothing constructive will come out of replying (circular discussion), then there's no need to.

This is not a competition but a sharing of minds and ideas.

  • Try to avoid "You" clauses to prevent this pitfall. "You think that...", "You are...", "Maybe you...". Don't attribute specifics to who you're replying to but what you're replying about.

  • Criticizing public figures is acceptable in comments, but keep it brief and on topic to the discussion. Nothing involving harm or terrorism.
