Yeah... Russians are known for their ability to reverse engineer and circumvent protections of all sorts... For good and bad...

I'm pretty sure it won't take long before there are easy ways to circumvent whatever VPN blocking Putin invests in...

So it's time for our EU politicians to step up then....

Hey, US, where are you in this? We need you guys to get on board with the right to privacy...

Slovakia will ending their support for Ukraine isn't a problem as to what will happen when the US and EU stops supporting Slovakia.

The amount of money the US and EU has poured into Slovakia the last ten twenty years is far from insignificant.

If Slovakia decides to stop believing in Europe then Europe will stop believing in Slovakia.

Windows does that automatically when switching from Linux to Windows... 😁

Old timer here.

In the old days Microsoft essentially conquered the web by creating specialized features only available for their web browser.

This is the reason why we still suffer with IE compatibility mode in Edge. A lot of corporations still have systems that rely on clients being IE compatible.

Google essentially does the same with their services and Chrome.

Unfortunately this is coming and a majority of people are going to happily step on to the train.

Think of it like this: 99% of all apps could have been just web apps in a mobile browser (Hell, a majority essentially are just a wrapped web app) but because of companies offering more/better functionality people choose to use the app.

All that needs to happen is sites starting require DRM functionality for "security reasons" so that the end user can enjoy more features.

A majority of end users don't understand the implications when making choices like these.

I've been jumping around trying 4-5 clients since the Reddit Exodus and all of them had some really anything bug. Voyager is the one that in my opinion is the best one feature and stability wise. However, voyager if giving me one big headache in the form of going totally black if I swap over to fx read an email. I don't care if you're my Firefox needing things up. I'm not going to opt in even more in Google Surveillance just because Voyager is open source.

Sync for Reddit was my whole Reddit experience for the last 7-8 years. I think I tried a majority of the clients and Sync totally wiped the floor with the other clients in my opinion. Both in new features and stability.

I use Windows and several dists on a daily basis. I have an Android phone and I truly like the philosophy behind open source... With that said.... Competition is great. We'll see what Sync for Lemmy can bring to the table. If it is as good as sync for Reddit was the other clients have to shape up and it's us, the users, that will benefit.

This message was created with Sync for Lemmy.

When I started playing around with Linux 25 years ago Debian and APT was a small revolution in how good it worked out of the box.

I tried to get into Red hat and SUSE and I always wanted up in trouble even before I got any Windows manager up and running. Don't get me started on RPM and dependency hell

Debian just worked. I had stuff up n running BEFORE I had to go down the rabbit hole to understand how all things was connected.

For a beginner that was a game changer.

Weird thing has started to happen the last day or two. My Subscribed flow is suddenly filled with old posts. For example this: https://lemmy.ml/post/46651

There are no replies that are even close to as old as the post itself is which indicates that something fishy is going on. Someone got the post in their flow now and therefore started to reply to it.

This is just one example of many in my flow right now...

So is there a bug or something going on?

I'm using Ampere to see information about battery charging.

However, I'm not able to see the voltage or current charging mode (normal, QC or USB-PD fx) on my S20FE 5g.

Does such an app exist?

It seems he used this url: https://themarkup.org/blacklight?url=mozilla.com

The tool just analyzes the Mozilla webpage and have nothing to do with Mozilla Firefox web browser.

Two years ago I started composting the cut grass from the lawnmower and occasionally some thin twigs and leaves. "Composting" as in dining it all in a cheap plastic compost container without any bottom.

In my head worms and other things would find their way there and start munching away.

In reality the end result was dry cut grass cakes and twigs. So this spring we got rid of the contents.

So ... What beginners guide to easy composting do you recommend.

I would like to start easy and in a distant future, if all goes well now, I might get an isolated container for leftover food and scrap. But that seems very distant right now.

"The countries of Central and Latin America "threw cold water" on the EU's efforts to unite the continent to support Ukraine and call for colonial reparations in a counter-proposal to the draft declaration of the upcoming EU summit."

So on one hand they are not interested in standing up against the Russian attempt to colonize Ukraine but on the other hand they are very interested about colonial reparations?

So... are they pro colonization or anti colonization?
