Kindly ask them about the current prognoses, like the Club of Rome one, the expected number of climate refugees in the next decades, and how well we are on track to hit any climate goal. And then about a protest form that will actually work and stop unprecedented human suffering.

Good news, we are on a good track to do jack shit about the climate and also severely cutting into rule of law and right to protest. Hooray.

Luckily, there is nothing you could do to change things, ever. It must be nice to have a clear conscience.

It is one thing I learned during Corona: a lot of people don't give a shit about erosion of fundamental rights or people dying horribly. But don't you dare inconvenience them in their god-given right to party on and pretend all is well.

If nobody bought iPhones, would Apple exist?

[–] LH0ezVT 3 points 5 days ago

Yes. It does not work without severely limiting what people are allowed to say. I do believe anonymous communities don't work without moderation, but I also believe blanket censorship is bad.

I have no good answer :(

The oil industry exists because people demand oil. Period.

I am mildly inconvenicenced for a short term, I demand to restrict basic freedoms and go for the highest sentence!

God help I even change my life a little to protect the life of literally billions of people.

I don't think there is a way to have real time moderation without having bs like pre-approval of messages or AI snake oil. Which I am strongly against.

I had seen the original talk and was shocked how little regulators seem to care. Especially in the post-stuxnet world, with a second cold war being in full swing.

Couldn't have said it better

For some god-forsaken reason, planes are often cheaper

I feel like tankie is a very precise term for the kind of "communists" that cheer when people get run over by tanks. Therefore, a good test to see if someone just cheers for "imperialism but red" or genuinely cares about liberation.

My first magnetic loop for 2m :)

Really simple construction: bent ca. 2mm brass pipe soldered directly to the outside of an SMA plug, inside of the plug soldered to the red wire as "input coil". Tunable by squeezing the ends more or less close together.

SWR of <1.2 at resonance, not bad. Impedance is at roughly 44+j2 Ohm, also not bad for totally eyeballing it without any prior calculations.

I can reach the nearest 2m relais just fine at 2W, although to be fair I can do the same with a short whip antenna. More testing to follow. Holy shit, this actually works!

It will widen your horizon, they said. And here I was, foolishly thinking I could get away with half-assing statistics during my degree.

Turns out the status quo of Linux memory management somehow works pretty damn okay, nobody seems to really know why, and nobody cares.
