If you're into the idea of a John Wick esque action movie where Dev Patel fights the BJP and RSS then I really recommend this.

It doesn't outright name the BJP but it's pretty obvious. It's also got some good commentary on land seizures, along with the treatment of indigenous and Muslim communities in India. Also some good representation of the Hijra community which I haven't seen mentioned in much Western media

Also cheap compared to Canada, especially around the great lakes region. Across the lake in Canada is one of the most unaffordable places to live in the country, along with the southwest coast

He was one of the best parts, he killed it

I was laughing super hard throughout this movie and I think it'd go over well here, it has a similar sense of humour to a lot of we post. It's also great to see something unapologetically queer that's not just a sad or serious movie

I like that this thread and the other megathread don't seem to get much traffic from other instances. It's refreshing to come in here and read conversations about world news without having to argue with random libs

So the Canadian government passed a law in June that would require Meta and Google to pay news organizations for news content that is featured on their websites. Essentially acting as a kind of "link tax" for tech companies, justified by the use of content from these news organizations that appears on Facebook, Instagram, and Google (thumbnails, bylines, etc). In response Meta has blocked all Canadian news from appearing on their websites along with non-news websites from Canada like The Beaverton and Walking Eagle News (The Canadian and Indigenous versions of the Onion). You can read more here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_News_Act

https://www.parl.ca/legisinfo/en/bill/44-1/c-18

So I can see potential pros and cons of this legislation.

Pros:

I hate Google and Meta and this will make them lose money which I'm always a fan of.

This could help news organizations that have more leftist or more Indigenous focused reporting fund their work, considering those organizations don't have much funding to begin with in Canada.

The current blocking of news on Meta could help move people away from getting their news on there from sites like The Rebel

It will help ensure the survival of Canadian based news and help stave off even more American corporate and cultural hegemony over the country

Cons:

The majority of the money from this program will go towards the Postmedia owned news networks and further entrench their neoliberal worldview

What do you think about the bill?

I've had this feature on my phone for quite a while since it's MIUI. But the issue I've had is that it will decrease the volume even when I'm connected to Bluetooth speakers or my car where it's easier to max the volume on the phone and control the volume on the speakers

Okay we're in a thread talking about how Native Hawaiians feel about the American government. I actually want to know why you are arguing this point and what you feel it accomplishes, in genuine good faith. Like are you Native Hawaiian, do you like in Hawaii, do you just like the idea of being able to visit Hawaii without a passport, or is there some other reason?

For me, I'm arguing this because I believe Indigenous people around the world have a right to self governance and freedom from colonial occupiers. So what's your reason?

I dunno what to tell you dawg if you can't understand that a referendum of Hawaiian residents from 1959 doesn't represent the opinions of Native Hawaiians after 60 years of American control and immigration to the island. If you're so into facts and stats you should know a representative measure of their opinion could only be done through a survey of Native Hawaiians

Nice job replying on your other account first lol, are you in here upvoting yourself too?

So then your point about

Hawaiians could have protested, revolted, or one of many other options. But they didn’t.

Is false

So to quote you

That’s the thing about facts— your opinions don’t magically make them untrue, regardless of how many folksy sayings or logical fallacies you conjure.

Like the Hawaiian Sovereignty Movement which began actively protesting and gained support in the 1960s, pretty soon after the referendum?

I'm treating this like adult Pokemon and my friends aren't getting my excitement when I find a new bird.

Also I've been checking in on some juvenile Bald Eagles near me here's a picture I could get of one:
