I’m not a fan of either

You could say I’m sp-ace

(let’s ignore the existence of lower deck and strange new world for this joke)

YouTube premium, as far as I’m aware, still shares some of your monthly membership fee to the creators you watch to offset not seeing ads. I also am a premium member and feel no guilt at all about skipping sponsorship sections because of this.

Would apple just roll over on this? Or would they fight to make sure safari is also an option to freely use the internet (or at least severely limiting apples ability to do something similar) And websites that depend on ads, the number of Firefox and safari users have to be greater than the number of users who use ad-blockers. So wouldn’t it negatively affect ad income on websites if they implemented it and cut out all non-chromium browsers?

“We wanted to reduce the effect of the membrane as much as possible, since it’s heavy,”

Aren’t speaker membranes the lightest part of a speaker? I’d figure these things would still need amplifiers, would be highly dependent on where you sit (possibly amplifying unpleasant noise if you shift your position even a little bit due to phase), would generate ozone, and they don’t even really sound good when playing music, which means the ANC capabilities of them would be limited in the best case scenario.

I don’t know. Other “whole room ANC” devices have come and gone and none of them seem to work. It’s a great idea in theory, but I don’t know if this tech is any different in nature to just using membrane speakers.

ANC is already used in cars with moderate results, but you generally sit in one spot and there’s already speakers in your car.

Start at 4:43 for most relevant section.

I have a few powered monitors already and it'd be nice if I could have them work double duty between my audio mixing (when editing) and watching movies when I'm not working. I know Atmos is a whole can of worms intended to be a money pit, but the tinkering aspect is pretty high up there on things I like doing.

I don’t know if I’d take his word at face value. This reads like he’s talking to potential investors, not Reddit’s user base. Of course he’d want to assure them that everything is okay and they should still give him money.

Also, the vibe of a social network named after petty and trivial quarrels seems to be not for me.

Any game that has daily login bonuses or a bonus for playing every day. Animal crossing pocket or whatever it is. Pokémon go. A bunch of afk phone games. A bunch of gacha games. It just feels so shallow to me. Like, I’m not being manipulated to play something, I just end up feeling so guilty to lose a streak I’d rather delete the game.

Not sure how many of you are still working remotely, but I've transitioned to permanently remote with contract work between gigs. I was just wondering what everyone else's setup is when it comes to remote work and if you're still trying to reach for a better setup.

I bought an M1 mac mini back in 2020 as a "temporary" setup when our company switched to remote work. Since all the processing was done on in-office trashcan macs and we used screen sharing software to remote in, it didn't matter how fast my home machine was; only that my internet was fast. Since then, I've gotten a few clients and have had to upgrade my computer since the mac mini was really struggling with RAM.

Anyway, here's the list of things I use for my daily editing:

**Remote work software: **

Jump Desktop

**Home office setup: **

M2 Max Macbook Pro

Mac mini is sitting headless, attached to a 2.5g switch with external storage attached to its thunderbolt and USB ports. I basically just use it as a rudimentary NAS so I can work off network storage. There is probably a way better way to do this, but I figure I should use the stuff I have rather than build a dedicated NAS with TrueNAS Core.

Thunderbolt dongles that supports 2.5g ethernet

Scarlett 2i2 audio interface

JBL 3 MkII powered monitor pair

SoundID Reference so I can calibrate my headphones and speakers

AKG K240 & Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro headphones

Magic Trackpad
