I would settle for being this hot if the performance was better.

I know but holy crap it's something not to be forgot in a hurry.

That heat spreader tho... fell out the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down!

I narrowly missed one of those on newegg for my Linux drive; going with a 990 pro... ended up having to get the one with the apocalyptically ugly heat spreader tho, unfortunately.

I suspect we'll see the same for AM5, AMD is just fudging with the 2025 date in case the engineering doesn't allow it. It's pretty profitable for AMD, having a userbase like that.

Makes me optimistic for the lifespan of AM5.

Eh, not really, but this does suggest that AM5 will get support significantly into the life of AM6.

Lets me find a place to economize in mainboards, just hook up a bit of copper wire and use the saved money for better other things. :)

It might be a way to improve perf either straight up or by cutting wattage and even with the scrapped big models - assuming that a possible AI crash doesn't have those tapeouts pulled from storage - they likely have RDNA 4's GDDR7 controller taped out if the line was to use it.

Any chance the next RDNA will sport GDDR7?

TBH, if the no reverse compat rumors for Switch 2 are true, this changes nothing about how bad the matchup is here.

And that includes the switch too, given the library.
