My Facebook is a graveyard of single 30 something friends who dumped dozens of great guys because they didn’t tick every box on a 100 item checklist. Now they’re panicking because their clock is ticking and no one wants them because they’re shallow and desperate. A few have settled but it’s clear they’re both miserable. No one wants to feel like the 76th best option.
The problem is that step parents have zero legal rights. If the marriage or relationship doesn’t work out, the step parent loses their entire family forever. It’s a raw deal for people brave enough to raise someone else’s kids. I could only ever consider this if I were able to legally adopt. That way, heaven forbid, things don’t work out with the relationship, they’re still my kids.
I know it’s a modern thing to wait many years before marriage, but living with someone for a year is plenty of time to know who they are as a person. Most people need to shit or get off the pot at that point but they don’t because apathy is easier.

I don’t know what you mean by “class solidarity,” but it was born in the fires of the 2008/2009 bank bailouts in which millions of ordinary people were wiped out financially while the financial institutions were given trillions of dollars. There was a lot of anger at the perception of crony capitalism and elites. The movement itself was grassroots and clearly feared by the powerful. You might not like the goals of the movement, but their anger was palpable, and at one point, something like 10% of the country identified with the movement. There was no way the rich and powerful could let ordinary citizens form such a powerful voting bloc.

It is the best way we have to measure g factor. IQ is highly correlated with life outcomes, so the argument that it only measure one’s ability to do IQ tests well is clearly specious. It’s measuring g factor, and g factor enables one to work more productively and delay gratification, meaning less crime. The average IQ in prisons in America is something like 85. That’s near the cutoff for the army, because not even they can teach such a person to peel potatoes. The ramifications of this are obvious: we’ve built economies which require intelligence. Someone with an 85 IQ (more than 10% of the population) can’t even be trained to run cash registers at McDonald’s. What does one do if they can’t work? Crime, poverty, self harm, and chronic welfare. We need to figure out what to do with these people, and the first step is acknowledging that not everyone is equally capable of contributing to society. Then we can have an honest discussion about welfare and UBI for these vulnerable people. Pretending they’re not severally disadvantaged is harming them immensely.
The EU now has a rule that all reports of content must be checked and verified for illegal content like misinformation. They can’t automatically block that content because then people would weaponise reports. At best they can automatically block video and image hashes which have been previously verified as illegal, but these are trivial to circumvent. I think they’ve started using perceptual hashes but these are far from perfect.
I believe they use similar moderation for the US to proactively head off potentially similar legislation to the EU.
Something like 3 billion people actively use Facebook each month. There must be tens of millions of daily reports. I can only imagine the level of planning, staffing, and tools which are required to facilitate that.
