I'd reserve judgement on that until they start building grid level battery storage on a scale an order of magnitude bigger than current setups.

We don't need new technologies to overcome the issue of global warming itself; we need them to overcome the issue of human nature. People (in the population level sense, not individually) are not good at long term thinking. Solving global warming with current technologies will require a change in lifestyle from just about everyone. It's the kind of change that will have no perceivable reward to most people. That's why a lot of those solutions like biking, veganism, etc, will never catch on.

I'd say that Passenger alone has enough horny to outweigh any of the sad.

Depending on how much time your server spends with those CPUs actually under load, newer processors may not really help your energy bills. Even old processors idle at single digits wattages. Most of the idle power consumption (where most home servers spend 99% of their time) on the server will be coming from fans, RAM, and storage.

This happens every time AMD starts cutting into Intel's market share. Competition is a wonderful thing.

It's a function of ZFS itself. Data that is to be written to the drives is first written to RAM, then transferred to the drives. One of the benefits of this is that if you are moving a file that is smaller than the available RAM, your transfer won't appear to be limited to the write speed of the drives.

I think it's probably got more to do with the "every accusation is a confession" principle that modern conservatism seems to operate under.

ZFS. It can use up as much RAM as you care to give it for caching. So if you are slinging a lot of data back and forth, more RAM is better. Especially if you are using HDDs instead of SSDs.

The combination of those trees and overhead power lines might be problematic in some climates, but overall, I'm all for getting as much greenery into city centers as possible.

"Hey Mr President, want to be the first president in space? Only the best and most manly presidents will ever make it to space."

Oops, rocket blew up.
