Cause is not understood, but I'd wager most people not drinking coffee in the morning are miserable chuds waiting to die. That's my take, but I'm pretty biased.

The guy can't miss an opportunity to demonstrate his character and personality. This seems both extraneous and consistent - it's more of the same data. I think we've got his number.

Leave him alone. This is as close as he gets to intamacy.

This is how I read it as well. It's not like Mike Johnson wouldn't do that is the thing. He's proving to be an absolute pathetic little turd.

It's just anxiety, throw them a quick compliment about something and unless they really have a complex, that usually closes the loop and you can move on.

Oh I like that thing. I'll need to look for some of those. I use counters like this for my suits too so I can keep track of wears before dry cleaning them, this might be cheaper option than the ones I use. I've been meaning to 3d print one of these for my commadante, but might try these until I actually get around to that. Any idea what that particular one is called / brand?

Even after this whole ostrich story broke?

Calling it a compliment sandwich though would be like calling a ham sandwich a bread sandwich. I'm sticking with poop sandwich.

I always referred to a poop sandwich as a way to give someone bad news. You tell them something neutral or positive, then the bad news, then tell them something to try to cheer them up again. Hopefully that's what is being referred to here, but I think it is something more sinister.
