A group of Russian mercenaries betrayed Putin and now seems to be trying to overthrow him (though the mercenary group claims they're only fighting the leadership of the military)

From what I've heard the reaction is split. Some people want to federate as much as possible, other people are arguing that meta will screw over the fediverse (and I agree with the second group)

There's also some pact thing, fedipact if I recall correctly, to defederate from meta if it tries to join the fediverse

I think this is the time to bring up the Umberto Eco quote:

"Thus, by a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak."

-Ur-Fascism, by Umberto Eco

Tankie usually means someone who supports the authoritarianism of communist authoritarian nations. Occasionally it's also used to describe all communists

Communism is not considered hate speech, but it is commonly hated

Just to be clear here, I do think creating a space that is specifically safe for minorities is a good thing, and that trying to prevent or interfere with that is bad

As a progressive: the way people tend to use the term minorities (demographics which are marginalized on the basis of their identities) is practically a declaration of progressive political beliefs

apparently I was wrong about it being in the sidebar, but the address is formulated like [email protected] in which anime is the community and lemmy.ml the instance

You need to access the post through your own instance. In the sidebar of a community, it will have an adress to that community that you can copy paste in the search function of your instance

They come back online in the sense that they'll become visible again, but if they don't allow it to be used that's still basically shut down imo
