Sure. I'm not criticizing people downvoting the bot though, merely pointing out that if you observe for awhile, you'll notice it sometimes picks up large numbers of downvotes and sometimes does not.

The number of votes it receives doesn't appear to be correlated with how many people overall are participating in the thread, though, which is what one would expect. Instead it appears to relate most to what the article is about. This is interesting.

The idea of a black hole binary system just flinging stellar-mass objects around like children's toys is just a teensy bit terrifying, I must admit.

While I agree that it is very easy for republicans to masquerade as progressives, especially on the internet, I think that's actually not a particularly effective form of challenge due to how quickly it derails conversations.

By instead remaining focused on specific issues and policies we can help keep attention where it belongs--on the real life impacts that our elected officials' policy positions can have on our real lives. The fact of the matter is that Harris does have some genuine progressive chops. While she's certainly imperfect as a politician, she's no Bill Clinton-style moderate. We do have her Senate voting record after all, where progressive monitoring groups generally rated her very favorably.

Space noodles, of course.

I wonder if part of the reason Japan reports a low amount of "treated with respect" is due to how high their standards are for respectful behavior.

It's truly fascinating to watch how the downvote tallies for the bot correlate to article subject.

There is one small thing that slightly moderates my frustration over this one: Being rich is not particularly good protection against microplastic contamination. It's so ubiquitous and went undetected for so many years that even Bezos and Zuckerberg probably have plenty in their systems.

lol

That's pretty good. For context for the unaware, the omelette version of the MRE, discontinued some years ago if I remember right, was widely considered to be the most disgusting one by far, and likely a form of cruel and unusual punishment that could be inflicted on servicemembers.

Here's a guy named Steve eating and reviewing one:

If you're curious what we probably actually are giving them, it's most likely actually these:

Check out .grad and you'll see pretty quick.

I'm not that guy, but my two cents:

Both the fascists and the communists want to overturn the liberal system, it's about the only thing they actually genuinely agree on. Fortunately the actual full-on seize-the-means-of-production sorts are a vanishingly tiny percentage of the American population, and the two factions are otherwise completely antithetical to each other, with fascism being pure hierarchy and communism being no hierarchy. Liberalism in all its forms sits between these two extremes.

Lemmy, being international and non-corporate, is a small hub for the community though, with .ml (the more moderate ones) and .grad (the full-on tankies) being their homes.

I'm generally not worried about them. They know full well the fascists would literally try to eradicate them, that's a primary component of fascist philosophy going back to Hitler. They also won't be able to gain much of a foothold in the US until they can demonstrate a large-scale example of success somewhere, which is difficult when even China of all places has moved away from communist economic principles in recent decades. They will never stop hating liberals unfortunately, since we're clearly not communist and stand in their way. We at least permit them to exist though, when there's no McCarthyites running things anyway.

That's a 15 minute video and these guys sound like douchebags. Is there a summary version that gets to the point?
