So one of the defenses we have against this is the federated nature of lemmy. It's not "Lemmy" that you join. It's an instance run by some people you hopefully have found to align with your values. That instance does not need to grow large on its own for the whole network to be strong and you can maintain moderation in the instance by limiting then number of members joining. This doesn't weaken Lemmy, there are other instances that denied applicants can go to and they can all interact. Think of it like a bus service where if one bus is too full, you can just catch the next one. Except the next bus is already there waiting for you. It may just be enough of a disruption to stop a hivemind from moving in and taking over entirely, especially if instances are founded on a strong sense of culture. Beehaw certainly has its own culture compared to other instances and that's a great thing to hold on to when lot's of people show up and want things to work here exactly how they worked elsewhere.

Edit: We don't WANT to host the mass exodus from reddit. But if during that exodus a bunch of people who find they like our way of doing things better happen to join us then that's amazing.

That's a video specifically about non-induction electric tops, but thank you!

Thank you for sharing the experience, I'll have to adjust my expectations lol. Having an even heating is something I was hoping for for things like crepes or omelets. But on the other hand what I have now is a regular electric glass top, and it makes me nervous with how easy it is to scratch. Scratches can make the entire glass top crack and it's super expensive to replace. Any time any splatter happens or anything boils over for even a second if it drops onto the hot glass it INSTANTLY becomes burnt on and needs to be scraped off but you can only use special non-abrasive detergents..

Induction would suit my needs well enough for most things and I can probably adjust to the times it doesn't.

I'm looking for a hotplate or portable type. One thing I've seen people take issue with is a small heating area? Is this an overblown issue? On many of the units I have been looking at they say there's a ring that's like 4-6 inches in diameter that heats and I'd like to be able to cook evenly on a larger skillet.

I use it and just want to mirror what other people said. It's like of like subbing to patreon but for a bunch of creators at once. And most of the content is available on youtube anyway but it's nice to watch it without ads and sometimes extra content

It is so hard to keep seeing content that I'm subscribed to instead of youtube just deciding I've watched enough of that sort of content and flooding me with 100 videos that are tangentially related to one video I clicked on by accident.

Do you remember when horse armour was $5 and people freaked out so badly Bethesda walked back on mtx until they felt ready for FO76?

I grew up in one of those and have moved in the past couple of years to a place that is ever so slightly better but not by much. Currently it's a suburban sprawl dominated by single level strip malls surrounded by asphalt moats. It can be tough out there!

Good recommendations! I love both of those channels!

Here's some others that I follow. Maybe we should start a thread for content creators to follow.

https://www.youtube.com/@CityNerd "CityNerd is a channel and community that embraces all things cities and transportation, approaching things with a profound love for urban environments and an analytical bent. " Ray's dry, sarcastic, delivery of Top 10 worst lists are amazing.

https://www.youtube.com/@NotJustBikes Stories of great urban planning and urban experiences from the Netherlands and beyond. There are a lot of reasons why Dutch cities are so great; it's not just bikes.

I'm sure I don't need to actually list this one, but for completeness here it is. The OG.

https://www.youtube.com/@alanthefisher "The Numbers don't lie, and they spell disaster for you suburbs." Alan posts content on rail and urban ideas. "Just one more lane bro" guy.

https://www.youtube.com/@Shifter_Cycling "A channel about urban cycling, bike commuting and the ways we get around our cities with author, journalist and creator Tom Babin." This is a channel that's great for getting familiar with the more practical aspects of using bicycles as a mode of transportation.

https://www.youtube.com/@AdamSomething Makes urbanist content sometimes, other times he rants about various topics

https://www.youtube.com/@OhTheUrbanity "Oh The Urbanity! traverses cities by foot, bike, and public transit and aims to make informative and (hopefully) entertaining videos combining streetscapes and demographic data." Montreal based duo posting urbanist content

https://www.youtube.com/@RMTransit "Ever wondered why your city's transit just doesn't seem quite up to snuff? RMTransit is here to answer that, and help you open your eyes to all of the different public transportation systems around the world! " I have never seen someone as passionate or informed about transit systems worldwide as Reece from RM Transit

I am working on making a shader for a concrete barrier with moss growing on it for blender. I can do it in other software owned by Adobe, but I'd like to figure out how to do it using blender's shader nodes.
