Yes the rest of us are also part of a system of exploitation (and that's bad and I hope you are all combating against it as best you can), but we're much more beholden to it, seeing as how our actual survival requires full lifelong participation in that system.

If there's anyone that could be considered "above capitalism" it's the billionaires. They actually have some individual power to shift the rules of the game they know is crooked. Or at least not take take take take and still want praise for giving away a micron of a rounding error of their wealth.

I can't really think of a case where a post's image isn't relevant to the associated discussion. Even if it's just a nonsense post with an unrelated image, knowing what the irrelevant image is about would help make sense of the discussion.

Not enough info is better than nothing. Because if it's nothing, you can't tell if the person who shared the image is lazy or decided the alt text wasn't necessary for this particular picture

They're still around! Discourse, phpbb, etc make it super easy to set up and administer. You don't even need coding knowledge. I'm part of a forum that's been going since the early oughts myself. Old Ocremix forums diaspora.

All I need is enough people on these decentralised social media platforms to keep me from feeling like I'm missing out by not being on one of the monoliths, and I've already got that now.

I welcome all the new people, and am happy for them to stay and explore, but if the numbers just stayed around where they are now, well, that would be fine too.

It's not like we've got to worry about pumping the numbers for a venture exit or IPO or anything. We can just chill out and enjoy.
