The "please" at the beginning of a statement (not a question) like that is typically used to patronize or condescend, usually only used when being hostile or dismissive. If English isn't your first language I can understand the misunderstanding.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 10 minutes ago

Sure, but that doesn't mean you should fight them for gun control instead of fighting them for the other things. You can instead advocate for those other things. Those other things are also easier tbh because they don't require an amendment to the constitution to happen.

Did your literacy study control for people who are ESL or resident non-english speakers (legal resident or illegal)? Most of those literacy studies are actually kinda racist, just fyi. In your fervor to call Americans stupid you may want to not be racist while you do it.

Btw, turns out around around 44% of Aus adults don't have the literacy skills required for every day life https://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/[email protected]/Lookup/4228.0main+features992011-2012

So they're stupider by your metric, I suppose, and idk what their immigrant population looks like so idk if they have a similar "problem" (really less of a "problem" than you'd think actually, they get by ok) with Spanish-only speaking people.

Btw firearms aren't the leading cause of death for children, that study included "children" who are full grown ass 18-19yo adults involved in gangs and took place in 5 cities known for their gang problems, iirc it was NYC, LA, Baltimore, Chicago, and Philly. It also took place during the pandemic when the real leading cause of death would have been deflated, because it's car crashes, and if they're mostly staying home for zoom classes it cuts down on car crashes. Gang activity waits for no pandemic, people need money and other people need to lose theirs to drug addiction, business was booming during the pandemic for dealers, not to mention we still have an opiate epidemic we're dealing with which also overlapped the pandemic (we've been in it for like 15yr now.)

It's done purposefully, mostly just because scaring you into clicking by making you think "this could have been me" gets them more clicks and therefore more ad revenue and perpetuates the idea that active shooter incidents as most people perceive them are way more common than they are, which ups the fear and the clicks and ends up being a really fucked up manipulative cycle, basically the news is abusing us. Harder to scare you if they tell it in a less sensationalist manner, because you won't connect to those people as deeply or in the same way unless you also happen to hang out in crack houses at 3am and most people do not do that.

There are some groups that perpetuate the same for political reasons as well, like Everytown, MDA, and the Brady campaign, but mostly it's just plain ol' "if it bleeds it leads give us attention/money."

Ah thanks! Like I said I always just give it the 60s (or +X), so I was less familiar with the now bit.

Bill Watterson never approved the Calvin peeing decal. Calvin was filling a water balloon in the OG strip, which was lifted and edited to the decal illegally and without Bill's permission.

Furthermore tell me you never had an imagination as a kid without telling me you never had an imagination as a kid, I guess.

The command shutdown defaults to 60s, but doesn't throw the popup. shutdown +60 will give you 60min instead (and +30 is 30min, etc), shutdown -c to cancel, and shutdown --show will show if one is scheduled shutdown -h I believe is the "do it now" option but I always just give it the minute.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 4 hours ago

Oohhh someone was born earlier and that makes them the coolest guy ever! "Please" lol.

Jerk-off motion/eye-roll combo.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 4 hours ago

Well you're supposed to eat it that's why, and you misspelled hole!

Lmao couldn't resist, ya set it up perfectly. I hear ya on the cilantro though, sucks for you it rules on tacos if you like it.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 17 hours ago

I was only foolin' lol, she does sound like a keeper though haha.

The "I'm 18/21" button on websites has been around since I was a kid in the 90s, used to have to input the "actual" date too so I was born 01/01/1970 according to a lot of now defunct porn sites lol. Also still in use on tobacco, vape, alcohol, and gun websites as well.

But yeah as I am am example of, lying is always possible lol. I guess this passport or the ID thing in some states is supposed to hinder that, but torrent sites throw a wrench into any censorship efforts and they're already illegal, they won't play ball with the ID bullshit, ever.

[-] [email protected] 30 points 1 day ago

Kids can torrent my dude. Been doing it since I was like 13, and that's only because before that I was using limewire, then frostwire, then bearshare, then I found torrents because TPB took over. I've been pirating since I was like 9.

That is to say: This dumb ass bullshit isn't even going to work.

List is out! Small one for me which is good on the wallet for sure!

Space Ghost #3

That's it lol. I was missing one in my box last week that should be there this week though, so there's that! What're you grabbing?

List is up! Let's see here..

Animal Pound #4 - Updated retelling of Animal Farm, it's fantastic.

Rare Flavours #6 - This is the end of the road. This book has been fantastic, the art is great and so is the writing. I believe it was the same team that did The Many Deaths Of Laila Starr and I'll be following these two if they team up again. Ram V also wrote The One Hand which is a great series too.

Blue Book 1947 #5 - I like cheesy alien stuff, sue me lol. It's about the history of UFOs in the US, aptly named. I already new most of it but they did teach me some new stuff too, and I like the B side stories in there. Last issue.

Lester Of Lesser Gods #2 - Silly fun

Operation Sunshine Already Dead #3 - LPOTL guys, basically vampire oceans 11, one issue after this, can't wait to see what they have next!

William Of Newbury #2 (Of 4) - Cute raccoon monk fights demons, what's not to love? Also, there was a real guy by this name in the middle ages but I don't think he was a demon fighting monk.

Sacrificers #9 - Man shit has been going down in this series.

Universal Monsters Creature From The Black Lagoon Lives #3 - I'm a nerd lol. I think they're doing all the Universal Monsters which I may or may not pick up.

w0rldtr33 #11 - Shit has been going down in this series too lol.

Whoo! A lot of shit but a lot of shit I've been waiting on. What's on your lists?

New list is up! Small week for me but that's alright!

My Bad Escape From Peculiar Island #2 - It's dumb, I like dumb. I got this last week though, idk why it's on this list. Was surprised to see it last week since it wasn't on that list.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Last Ronin II Re-Evolution #2

Man's Best #4 - I've been digging Space Homeward Bound, excited for this one.

One Hand #5 - End of the series (maybe one more six fingers). Been good!

What are y'all getting?

Comic Book Storage (lemmy.dbzer0.com)
submitted 3 weeks ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

I'm kinda new to collecting but as my collection grows I'm running into an issue, I need a decent way to store them.

Currently I have two BCW plastic boxes and one of their cardboards, and at least enough comics in a stack to fill another box.

What should I do? Should I stick with cardboard for price and use the plastic for the most valuable ones or larger runs like Ice Cream Man? Should I look into Legal size file cabinets? Some other comic furniture? I'm thinking it may be worth it.

Taking recommendations or just "I do X," anything helps, thanks!

This week's list is up! For me this week:

Into The Unbeing Part One #1 - Cover looks cool, I'll probably grab this.

Batman Gotham By Gaslight #1 (Facsimile Edition) - I like weird Batman, definitely getting this and:

Batman Gotham By Gaslight The Kryptonian Age #1 - Because why not? 1890s Batman sounds coll

Ain't No Grave #2 - The first one was pretty good, gonna continue this one

Geiger #3 - I do like me some SuperFallout

Remote Space #1 - Looks and sounds cool

Rifters #1 - Brian Posehn's Time Cops

Dick Tracy #2 - I dig it, usually avoid rehashed IPs but this one is ok.

What're you pulling?

Light week for me, thankfully, since I've had other things I needed. But still one I've been excited for!

Minor Threats II The Fastest Way Down #3 - Minor Threats is great, Scott Hepburn's art is so detailed in strange ways that just give you a taste of the scenery, and Patton Oswalt's writing is fantastic. Can't wait for the next series already, Minor Threats: Barfly, following one of those aforementioned background elements: what appears to be a punk kid that got Goldblumed (see: The Fly.)

Space Ghost #2 - It's no Coast to Coast but I liked issue #1, we'll see how long I stick with it.

I Hate Fairyland #15 - I love I hate Fairyland, as confusing as that sentence sounds.

What's on your lists?

New list is up! Not much for me this week:

Dawnrunner #3 - Mechs VS Eldritch Kaiju, and memories from the past. Great so far!

Operation Sunshine Already Dead #2 - Love me some LPOTL guys.

Grommets #1 - Honestly not what I'd usually go for, but it's Rick Remender and Brian Posehn, who apparently has been writing comics since his stand up career. I loved his stand up back in the day, so I have to pick this up.

Six Fingers #4 - Love both this and the connecting The One Hand

Universal Monsters Creature From The Black Lagoon Lives #2 - Classic monsters and Ram V

w0rldtr33 #10 - This series is pretty fucking good. Honestly kinda rolled my eyes when I read the elevator pitch but checked it out and have no regrets.

William Of Newbury #1 - Idk about this one but I'm at least gonna thumb through it, looks interesting.

What's on your pull lists?

Big week for me, but that's because of some back issues I'm grabbing. As for this week's releases:

My Bad Escape From Peculiar Island #1 - Looks weird, I like weird

Man's Best #3 - Loving Man's Best so far

Blue Book 1947 #4 - Aliens are fun, we need more aliens, I want comics like Edd had from Ed, Edd, and Eddy!

Bat-Man First Knight #3 - The Bat is alright, also gonna pick up a few ~~bat~~ back issues from the 80s while I'm there.

White Boat #1 - Don't know much but the cover looks cool

Blood Squad Seven #1 - Same as above

Rook Exodus #2 - Not gonna lie I'm probably dropping this. It's neat and stuff but tbh the selling point is that it shares a universe with Geiger, and honestly I'm not sure how much I care. Probably dropping Redcoat too, same reason, though I do like that a bit more.

What's on your lists this week?

submitted 1 month ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Fishflies #6 - Nearing the end of this 7 parter. A kid is shot, the shooter turns into a...thing..., the thing links up with an outcast little girl who identifies with the outcast criminal, somehow this all connects to previous cases and a darker secret in the town that I don't know yet.

Ice Cream Man #39 - This got delayed like 4mo, I've been waiting! Part 1 of 2, (neither part is "required"). They're always about sad things, this one is about car crashes.

Napalm Lullaby #3 - This one has been OK so far, if this issue doesn't drop something interesting enough to keep me around I maaaay drop it.

Redcoat #2 - Also unsure about this one, though I do like the whole "historical cult" thing.

Doom #1? - I mean tbh the only reason I want it is MF DOOM. I know this Doom isn't as good of a lyricist though, so we'll see.

Sorta big week for me it looks like, mostly Image.

Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees #6 - Favorite out right now full stop, this is ostensibly the last issue, but he says he has ideas to continue "if they let him" and frankly I assume they'll beg him to with how popular it has been, so here's hoping.

Ain't No Grave #1 - Scottie Young, looks promising.

Geiger #2 (2024) - I like Geiger, but not sure I'll keep up the rest (redcoat, rook, etc). I mean I'm primed for the whole "nuclear wasteland chic" thing because Fallout (when the hell are they going to release Grognak comics etc btw?!) anyway and it's superhero-ey but new. To me anyway, so it doesn't feel tired.

I Hate Fairyland #14 - Love this series, it's just good old silly fun. The last issue wasn't my favorite, but the previous like, 39 are great lol.

One Hand #4 - Shit got real in the last connected issue, can't wait to see how this one connects to that!

Sacrificers #8 - All in on this one, let's gooooo! I'm so glad it got more than the og 6 issues. In this issue we should get back to our Peculiar Pigeon Protagonist!

What's on your pull lists?

This week's list is up! Let's see..

Lester of the Lesser Gods #1 - Sounds interesting enough,

"Lester, the larping bastard son of the Odin, wanders the post-apocalyptic wasteland after thwarting Satan’s attempt to bring about the end of days. But can this hero of the downtrodden survive the battle arena of Will Frye the Technomancer Guy."

Minor Threats II The Fastest Way Down #2 - I'm all in on Minor Threats, Patton Oswalt done did it again.

Blood Brothers Mother #1 - "For fans of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly." Well, that's me.

Light week for me it seems, what about you?
