!bicycle_[email protected] is doing pretty damn good, considering the fact that the english speaking general cycling communities with way more subscribers see so little traffic. I guess after the season it will die down quite a bit, but season's still on. Yes, season's still on, so strap some luggage on your bike and get going.

If you did it would not be rent free, or would it, einstein. But no worry, i don't think about you, just this topic and your enthusiasm for it triggered my reply :)

Have a downvote for going off topic and "personal".

Or some self entitled 3rd party admin would do that just because they'd feel like people owed them explanations.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, just like rglullis actually dragged downvoters into the public on a few occasions, to pressure them to explain their downvotes.

Ok, that's interesting, maybe i should put a spare jockey wheel in my tool bag. I have never had that happen to me though. Did you notice something odd before it fell apart?

Scotland would be cool, but i am always worried about midges and the weather, so i generally tend to head south. Some day, been so long since i was in the UK.

So yesterday i made a pizza with thin sliced pepperoncini, better coverage. It was yummy, but it feels very much like a different pizza. I think my "hot magherita" title would fit the thin sliced one better though, the one on the picture i should have called maybe pepperoncini pizza or something. I will keep doing both types, thin sliced was not bad at all for some spice.

Super, dass die den Typen anscheinend ermitteln konnten, hätt ich jetzt nicht unbedingt erwartet.

Aaah, spoke cards, that's what those cards are :) Nice idea. I have cancelled my old warmshowers account and regretted it a bit tbh. But i'm not signing up again now since they charge quite a lot of money. I was only hosting people anyway, never used it as a guest, still was nice to have cycle tourers around every now and then.

I drew your route to get a better picture how you travelled, and yeah from amsterdam to szczecin it does not look like the most exciting route, also looks like it's not going along any popular long distance routes, so less people on tour to meet i guess. On my longer trips around the six week mark i felt like i could go home now, but then fell into the mood again. Helped a lot to have things to look forward to along the way other than just the destination.

Really cool bikes, were you happy with them and the bags? Any upgrades needed, are you going to slim down the green bags? I have been using sks topcages for many years and they take big bottles too (but not made for them), they still seem absolutely fine, never had a bottle fall out either, as a cheap replacement maybe, i've been really happy with them. For shoes i am now only bringing my Keen Clearwater sandals and some socks for when it's colder. Before i had also these funky beach slippers from decathlon. I love them, but they are not exactly quick drying, so i needed sandals for cycling in the rain too. My old sandals (Teva style with two straps) were not all that comfortable when climbing, so when i found these really comfortable sandals i just left them home. Works for me from spring to autumn. Still those beach slippers are also super comfy and light, for a sunny weekender i would just take those, they'd also make great camp shoes as you can just slip in.

Thanks for sharing this, do you have any ideas on where to go next? It sounds like it was not your last cycle trip!

When i went onto my first solo cycle trip some years ago (from germany to marseille, france), my coworkers joked that i should ride mont ventoux. I had no idea what mont ventoux was, but read it up. On that trip i happened to cycle around this mythical mountain, looked awesome, but i never seriously considered going up ever.

On two more cycle trips i cycled around mont ventoux on different routes, and it always looked just so cool from afar. This trip i wanted to hit mont ventoux, but i got sick basically on the western foot of it. I rode in recovery mode east past it, through the valley, looked awesome again. I then continued towards the high alps but eventually decided to turn around because of the weather forecast, back south into the prealps of provence.

And today i actually got to ride it. I rode it from Sault, because that's where i was coming from, which i guess is not what the OG's do or consider "riding mont ventoux", but cycle tourers are aloud to do that, haha.

Lots of roadies going up there. And it lived up to its name, it was real windy. In the morning at the bottom of the climb one roadie told me that it might be too dangerous to ride to the summit today but thankfully the wind chilled out a bit as i was going up, and also the cloud that had covered the top went away.

Picture is bit below the top on the descend to Malaucene. That glider plane was going nuts, that stuff looks absolutely crazy.

This topic is meant to be a low threshold possibility for all kinds of discussion. It is not meant to keep anybody from creating a new topic, the idea is that it may enable some discussion that would otherwise not happen at all.

Won't be getting any higher, at least not on this trip. On the Cime de la Bonette.

Riding mountains gives me a crazy high, the combination of exercise and the views that come up. There are places where you can get similar views "for free", without the work, but for me the feeling does not really compare.

The one where it says "terre de cyclistes". Pretty cool slogan, metropole nice cote d'azur.

Get all dizzy standing at these cliffs.

Met this guy walking across France in the cevennes, he started walking with his two donkeys at his home in Colmar, Alsace and was on his way to visit his kids at their farm at the foot of the Pyrenees. He was following the GR7 hiking trail.

This is a bit of an older link, don't think he updated in a while. I still have a look at it every once in a while.

Ultralight with little money, taken to the extreme (bubble wrap sleeping pad anyone?). I think he has some really good ideas and interesting thoughts, also like his humor.

You guys must be thinking i am full of shit, but another cat just walked into my tent. This time at "camping solau" in Espot, Spain.

She stayed for about 15 minutes and is gone now.

I know already that this cat belongs to the campsite, she hopped on my lap yesterday while i was sitting in front of the reception. Don't know her name yet, but i will ask when i get out.

*edit: Cat's called Cookie

Just as i had set up my tent she came in, was raining outside. We've been hanging out here for half an hour already. I hope she won't spike my sleeping pad. Necklace says her name is Kyra. Love it 🥹
